Future ISU wrestlers at the tournament

With all this talk over girls in a singlet on the mat, I thought it would be nice to talk about some future Cyclones and their meet experience. Just glancing through the results blog on dmregister.com, it looks like a mixed bag.

Tanner Weatherman handled his first opponent fairly easily, but the younger Sorenson appeared to drop his first match.

On a side note, is Bo Schlosser even at the state meet? What happened to this kid?

Sorenson lost to Hiatt from Ballard first round.. 2 state champs going at it, so no suprise that he lost... His 2nd match however he got tossed to his back, almost stuck, then got out and ended up winning.

Thanks for the info. As an out of stater, it is harder to follow.

And we're recruiting him? For wrestling?

KJ has been trying to get early offers to in state prospects, and it has been backfiring to an extent. It doesn't look like Sorenson or Schlosser will repeat as champs. Weatherman will probably be the only in-state recruit with a senior title.

Getting cuaght with a five point move happens. The fact that he fought out of it and then overcame the deficit shows promise.

I take all that back if he doesn't end up with 3rd though.

Sorenson already won a title, and the kid he lost to did as well. It's not like he lost to some fish who was 10-19 coming into the tournament. He is a top quality wrestler, and if he has half of the work ethic his brother does he should do just fine.

IMO the fact that we're recruiting a (at best) 3rd place finisher doesn't bode well.

Yes. He won one of the tougher brackets in the tournament as a junior last year and he was a good get for us, despite losing to a state champ in a tough draw this year. He's the younger brother of Andrew Sorenson, who, like Aaron, wasn't a "national" recruit coming out of high school but has developed into an AA candidate for us. Aaron is a good, hard working kid that will be a great representative for the program on and off the mat.

But go ahead and write him off based on one message board post.

Re: Future ISU wrestlers at the tournament

I'll wait and see how Sorenson does in the consolation bracket before I pass judgment. If he storms back to get 3rd and destroys everybody he wrestles...then I can live with third place with a loss to a stud in Hiatt. If he gets beat again or struggles, I'll have my doubts on whether he can do anything at ISU.

I think it is more based on the loss, not the post. I can see why the poster is frustrated. ISU, with Cael, was getting guys like Dan Taylor, quite likely the best wrestler is his class, to come to Ames. Guys that win 3-4 state titles used to pile in to Ames, but only Weatherman looks to have that possibility this year.

I think what KJ is doing will work, but it will take longer. He is not getting wrestlers like Destin McCauley to Ames, so he will have to take the long road to rebuild.

I do think KJ got one of the best in Iowa last year in Kyven Gadson. I can't wait to see him in the future

A returning state champion (36-1) who drew another returning state champion (40-1) in the first round and lost 4-6. I'm not happy he lost, but I'm not going to lose any sleep over it as long as he fights back to third.

If Schlosser is the kid from Bettendorf, he left the team some time ago. Is still working out. I only know this as a kid on my son's baseball team is the son of the guy that runs the youth program here.

What caused him to leave? My google-fu appears too weak to figure it out.
