Twister Sister Summary - Ladies lose again on the road.

This is going to be the shortest summary ever. I could make comments about the tough game played by Pop and I could pretty much stop there. Bottom line - when you can't shoot you can't win. Shooting and shot selection were horrid in this game. When the ladies closed within 5 late in the game they stopped doing what got them there and started flinging up 3's that wouldn't go. After holding TTech scoreless for an extended period the change in action saw TTech pull away in the end as ISU only scored 8 points in the last 4 minutes.

The hole started in the first half. It was like watching the beginning of the second half of the KSU game. 19-5 lead 8 minutes in and it didn't get better.

Poor shooting and a team that couldn't miss in the first half was just too much and the ladies have again dipped below .500 losing to a team that was on the ropes.

TTech wins 61-50. Ugly for the ladies and this one should be enough to knock them out of the top-25.

Re: Twister Sister Summary - Ladies lose again on the road.

Bill said all year we didn't deserve to be there in his opinion. As it's been all season, tough for us to win on the road. It will be interesting to see how players respond to both the game and the more than liklihood of dropping out of the top 25.

I wasn't able to listen to the game tonight, but saw the score from time to time. It looked real ugly early in the game and seemed like we were somewhat getting back into it a little bit. Unfortunately it wasn't enough.

I look forward to seeing them again at Hilton on Saturday. Go Cyclones.

ISU will definitely fall out of the Top 25 rankings now.

This team's best wins happened in November in the Virgin Islands.

And if we lose to Texas at home on ESPN's "Big Monday" game next week we will have no signature conference wins and be at serious risk of not even making the NCAA tournament.

Seriously? They would then have 7 losses in the undisputed toughest WBB conference in the nation. 9-7 easily gets a Big 12 team in. 8-8 probably will if a team played anyone in the OOC.

I would normally agree IF the 8 victories include some over the top teams. We have none. I still firmly believe we will get into the dance. Our seed is dropping as rapidly as a bowling ball in a fish tank.

Re: Twister Sister Summary - Ladies lose again on the road.

Considering our talent level, this team has overachieved. Bolte has impressed me with her improvement and shot-making ability. She used to be just a stand-still shooter.
We just don't have a supporting cast for her, either in the guard court or front line. When a mediocre team like Texas Tech takes Bolte out of the game, we have very few weapons to make up for it.
That the team can come back from huge deficits (like last night) is indicative of the team's fight and BF's leadership. But recruiting has fallen off. We are not attracting the talent, or shooters, that we have in the past.

    Fire BF !

On a more serious note, the transfers hurt us.
Anyone recall who were in Bolte's class ? We only have 1 senior and playing in Big 12, you need some experience and leadership to compete.

Bolte was the only incoming freshman the year she started. The other two recruits were jucos - Anderson and Stuckey. The single biggest cause of the lack of experience is the following class all leaving within two years.

I think the biggest issue is the lack of shooters. We have three players who play significant minutes who can't shoot a three to save their lives (Cole, Schroll, Pop). That is extremely unusual for ISU. I think we have plenty of post talent but don't have the shooters to force defenders out to the perimeter.

Re: Twister Sister Summary - Ladies lose again on the road.

You hit that Mred. The thing I have noticed about this team is that they do not shoot the 3. They try to play straight up inside/outside basketball. The problem is that they have way less talent and can not go toe to toe with Big 12 south teams playing like that.

Our PG doesn't like to shoot the 3 and is always looking to pass first. Fine and dandy but not on an ISU Bill F. coached team. Our 2 guards (Cole and Schroll) simply CAN'T shoot. Then Pop can't shoot either. So 3 out of 5 are not looking to hit threes. Also, Hallie CAN shoot but she doesn't that often and they don't run many plays for her to shoot.

Unfortunately, I think it was just a cumlination of bad circumstances/transfers that lead to this. Losing Whit was and is HUGE for this team this year. We just simply do not have the depth at the guard that can shoot. I think Harris will be great in a few years. The past few games she has been really hustling and working harder on defense.

I agree - we do have post talent, and I love Poppens' game. She loves physical play, and wouldn't care if a whistle was ever blown. We need more players with that attitude.
An "equalizer" for many teams that lack shooting ability is to press and force turnovers, and get steals. Or at least make teams work to get it up the court. I wish we would do some of that. ISU is almost at the bottom of all Div. I teams in steals, last time I checked.

We do have post talent that is woefully inconsistent. Leaves a simple bottom line. If Bolte is having a bad night (like last night) we will usually lose.

I think the inconsistency wouldn't be nearly as much an issue if we had shooters to take defensive pressure off them.

Re: Twister Sister Summary - Ladies lose again on the road.

27 points was out of 4/5 post positions last night. I'd hardly call that a post problem. It could be higher, but the issue is either the inability of our 2 guards to hit or three, or their fear of taking a three. I'm guessing its a little of both.

Tech has lost 2 games on their home court this year - A&M, and Texas.

If we protect our home court, win against Texas Monday, and win at Mizzou to end, we will be 9-7. I'd be overjoyed with that.

That was last night. I was referring to overall play during the season. In the scoring area, Pop, Prins and Zimm all can disappear just as quickly as Casper the Friendly Ghost. They have shown signs of outstanding play and the next game they might score 2-4 points. Inconsistent is the word.

So is BF going to be able to recruit enough talent to get more wins in conference? We do not appear top be getting better that fast.
