    Poisoned trees at Auburn

Oak trees poisoned at Auburn University's Toomer's Corner - ESPN

I don't think even the most insane Clone or Hawk fans are capable of this. Pretty pathetic.

    Re: Poisoned trees at Auburn

I'm guessing that if the trees die, and Auburn fans can find "Al from Dadeville," they will burn his house down.

People think the Iowa - ISU rivalry gets out-of-hand... football is religion down there.

I'm thinking the EPA should dig up some obscure pollution statute and put this guy away for a long time, if the state doesn't have him committed to a looney bin.

Not agreeing with the act, but didn't someone once write something in roundup on Iowa's field? Its a rivalry - if this happened 30 years ago, no one would have cared at all. Everyone is too PC currently. Again, not agreeing with the act, but it probably was a stupid prank by a bunch of college kids, which we have all probably been guilty of at some time.

I have never liked Auburn, but this, to me, is an outrage. You can't go down to the store and replace an oak tree.

    Re: Poisoned trees at Auburn

Ouch according to the article the product used could be a soil sterilent for 3-5 years. I would be ****** if I was an AU fan. That has been a gathering place for fans for decades. 120 year old tree's are not easy to come by.

It will take approximately 130 years to replace 130 year old oak trees.

    grass grows back quicker.

    No way.

You can also transplant mature trees. This also depends on how much AU or the city of Auburn is willing to pay.

    Re: Poisoned trees at Auburn

It is a little concerning to me that some people actually take a sport this seriously... There are way more important things in life than being a football fan. It should be a fun hobby to help a person get their minds off of their daily grind, but this guy needs to get his priorities straightened out big time!

I even think we as ISU fans (myself included) can get a little too out of hand after a win or loss that we have absolutely no control over (unless you have millions to donate).

I think the line between harmless prank and crime crosses when there is permanent damage, especially when you're talking about 130 year old trees.

Otherwise, it wouldnt be that big of a deal. Lots of stories like that with some of the bigger rivalries. Bevo has been a frequent target of Aggie pranks, even the bevo name originated after some aggies branded 13 - 0 onto the Texas mascot.
