I'm a Cyclone, but Drake's Final Four team of 1969 is the slam dunk pick.

I could care less about before the 3 pt line was introduced or before African Americans were allowed to play. Those are different sports than what we play today.

So then you're looking more for the greatest college basketball team ever since 1985, give or take. Ever = 26 years, give or take.

Ehhh, I guess I'd say before 1975 or so is where I stop caring.

I'm guessing that the more modern teams would school the old teams anyways. And if you can't beat everyone else, how are you the greatest team ever?

When exactly did African-Americans start playing college basketball?

Thats pretty much how I think about it. While a lot of people say basketball players used to be more skilled than now, I think that is just a bunch of BS. Even if that is true, players in the modern era are much, much more athletic and only slightly less skilled if there is any difference at all. Players now play all year round, have intense weight and agility training year round, start playing earlier against better competion, ect.

Ok you got me. The exact date is not correct. Sue me. As a general statement, those two factors make basketball, and sports in general different than what they are now.

    It's a 3 horse race IMO. 2000 Cyclones, 69 Bulldogs, 87 Sucks.

Re: Greatest State of Iowa Bball team ever Poll

Let's not forget out the Iowa team that featured Chad Calerbria, Downtown Freddy Brown, Glenn Vidnovic, Ben Gilmore, and Fred Johnson (I think I got the names right) They lost to Jacksonville featuring Artis Gilmore, Pembrook Burrows III, Vaughn Wediking in the semifinal game something like 103-102. A last second shoot missed by Jacksonville had a strange bounce, right into the hands of one of Jacksonville big boys for an easy putback for the win with basically on time left on the clock.
2 of Iowa's players went on to long ABA/NBA careers (Freddy Brown and Fred Johnson). That team could play with anybody. I think they might have gone undefeated in the Big 10.

I followed them before I saw the light and attended ISU and became a Cyclone.
