    Other side of Frank Martin

PA guy just read note from Frank Martin to KSU fans asking for contributions to help Thomas Robinson's little sister after their mother died recently. That's pretty cool.

Re: Other side of Frank Martin

I've read first-hand accounts from Cyclone fans who have said, in small group encounters (such as dinner), he is a geniune, classy, cool man. I have no doubt that is true in his personal life. On the basketball court, at times, he's a raving lunatic.

Re: Other side of Frank Martin

I want to hate Frank Martin, but I've read enough accounts from Iowa State fans that he is a nice guy.

He also always has nice things to say about Iowa State.

Frank Martin is a decent human being. People would love to hate him because he looks and sometimes acts like a mob boss, but in all reality, I think he is a decent man.

Re: Other side of Frank Martin

You have to assume he is capable of being a nice, decent, classy human being to be able to recruit the way he does. You don't form the type of strong connections it requires to bring someone to Manhattan, KS if you can't relate at a personal level. It seems like the K State teams are a family, and when the family can't get along they struggle, regardless of talent. When they do get along, they are really close knit and tough minded. Martin gets a bad shake because all their family disagreements are handled in a very public manner. He seems very emotional, and depending on the situation that can be a positive or a negative. Either way, emotionally-charged programs are always interesting to watch, especially from a distance.

Didn't he have a lot of supportive things to say during the whole Lucca thing? For some reason I thought he was one of the ones that went out of his way to praise ISU in what they were doing.

He would still be a tough coach for some of these kids to play for. He lives, breathes, eats, and loogies bball. Heck, he has lost of lot of hair just stressing out in his job. He is like a volcano ready to erupt.

Sounds a lot like a pretty successful former Indiana coach. I would still consider Knight as one of the top 5 all time coaches, but I don't think he'd make it anymore with the attitudes of a lot of these players. And you've got to wonder once Martin starts having a couple of down seasons, how long will the KSU faithful be okay with that kind of sideline demeanor.

Sounds like under-the-table pay for play to me.

Other than his occasional psychotic episodes, I don't mind the guy.

That was Pat Knight. Lucca bailed right before we played them and he went public with his support for GMac and railed Lucca.
