    Cubs back in first!!!

Good news and all, but we have the Reds to thank for it.

Which leads me to - did everyone catch the routine fielders choice to the third baseman, possibly double play grounder hit by Ken Griffey Jr, that ended up being a 2 run In-the-park homerun?

Man, the Brew-crew is imploding, and how! That was one of the crazier plays I've ever seen. Ball never should've left the infield, should've been 2 outs. Instead the Reds plate 2 runs.

It's amazing they're in first as they've played terrible over the last several weeks. I hope they can hold it together until September and when Soriono comes back that should help a lot.

I just wish they had a better pitching crew.

    Re: Cubs back in first!!!

I don't know if you realize there Bobber, but the Cubs are the 4th best team in the NL in ERA and .007 from 2nd. They are second in strikouts and only 10 ko's from first. Second in the league in hits; five more than the Mets. Fourth in the league in runs against. I don't know what you meant by that comment about the pitching staff, but either you haven't watched a game all year or just made a comment that you should have thought about before you said it but either way it makes no sense.

Exactly ZJohnson, the Cubs problem this year has been HITTING, which is something I would have never worried about at the start of the year. Try and think back and remember games this year where the opponents had more than 5 or 6 runs....doesn't happen too often. The pitching has kept the Cubs in the race this year, hopefully now the hitting kicks in on a more consistent basis.

    Re: Cubs back in first!!!

You guys haven't watched them in the last two weeks.

I watched the Big red machine come to town and score at will against their pitching. Last weeks series at Houston was horrible. The Cubs have had 5 or more runs scored against them 9 times in August and we're only half way through the month. They've had 10 or more runs scored against them 3 times! Gentlemen that is not a sign of a strong bull pen.

I watch them every other night.

Give it a few days... they will slump during the final stretch like they always do. Boy if they would have had Prior and Wood, they would really be flying.

I've been saying that the Brewers have been done ever since Yost and Estrada about killed each other in the dugout. It's just that the Cubs have been playing so badly, that they haven't been able to exploit that.

    Which way?

I think it's going to be a dog-fight the next few weeks. How's that for a prediction? Have to say, In my humble opinion, the Brewers are done. Too young and this is one of those slides that hard to recover from.

But the Cards are certainly a team to recon with. Hopefully the Cubs can keep them at arms length until Soriano returns - if he returns. That should be a healthy shot in the arm.

They go .500 or less with the Cards, count on seeing a "Sweet Lou" exhibit on the field to charge up the troops. They lose today and tomorrow - you'll see it right quick.

Man Hos, I've been hearing this garbage too much lately that I just couldn't let it slide. Why all this talk of the Cubs breaking down in the home stretch? When has that happened that it's considered "routine" or likely or a sure thing?

They usually break down in June.

I disagree, I'd rather be fighting it out with St. Louis than Milwaukee. The Cardinals have been hot these past couple weeks but their lineup is not one to strike fear into anyone (of course besides Pujols).

    Re: Cubs back in first!!!

Well, I'd rather be 10 up and not fighting it out with anyone.

I'm not making a preference of one over the other team to go against. t I think the Brewers are taking care of themselves, whereas we'll have to deal with the Cards. With 7 more against them, there's plenty of opportunity.

I have to say, right now our line up isn't exactly awe-inspiring either. Missing Soriano, a injured Rameriez and a inconsistent Lee and Zambrano.

Should be fun. Glad I got and kept those tickets for the finalee against the Pirates!!!
