2011 NCAA Basketball Tournament - TV Schedule

The new contract with CBS & Turner Sports kicks in this year. What will be noticeable this year for the first time ever is that all early round games will have national TV coverage, no more regional telecasts on CBS. TBS, TNT, and TruTV will have games on cable. The TruTV is the channel formerly known as CourTV. In Central Iowa, TruTV-HD is available on Mediacom & Dish Network. TruTV isn't available in HD on DirecTV.

Hopefully, if a game is tight down the stretch or a major upset is brewing, the networks will use a crawl informing fans to tune to "fill in the blank channel" instead of what ESPN did during the Holiday Bowl and and that was cut into the game to show the UCONN women losing when that game itself was on ESPN2.

Below is the schedule of games for the first weekend that was released today. All times are Central.

    Thursday-Friday:

    11am on CBS
    11:30am on TruTV
    12:30pm on TBS
    1pm on TNT
    1:30pm on CBS
    2pm on TruTV
    3pm on TBS
    3:30pm on TNT
    5:45pm on TBS
    6pm on CBS
    6:15pm on TNT & TruTV
    8:15pm on TBS
    8:30pm on CBS
    8:45pm on TNT
    8:55pm on TruTV

    Saturday, March 19:

    11am on CBS
    1:30pm on CBS
    4pm on CBS
    5pm on TNT
    6pm on TBS
    7:30pm on TNT
    6:30pm on CBS
    8:30pm on TBS

    Sunday, March 20:

    11am on CBS

Now there's no break at all. It used to be like 4 games were on at a time, starting at around 11, then the next set at 1:30 or so, then a break until 6 or so and the final four games of the day at 8. There isn't a structured break now at all. Should be crazy!

That finally means that you can watch the NCAA tourney for 12 straight hours (11am-11pm) with no breaks!! It will be amazing!!

Spreading the games around is ideal. Plus TNT's bball coverage is solid....I put in my time off slips for the first 2 days this morning!!!!

This is awesome...can't wait for March Madness. It will be funny though to see the NCAA Tournament on the same channel that carries All Worked Up and Operation Repo

FYI, when the Sweet 16 rolls around, games will be on CBS & Turner as well. CBS won't have exclusive coverage until the Regional Final's.

    So...

In Central Iowa, TruTV-HD is available on Mediacom & Dish Network. TruTV isn't available in HD on DirecTV.

Does this mean that TruTV is available on DirecTV in SD?

Yeah, there are pluses and minuses. It was hard to get every game, if not impossible sometimes, especially if the local affiliate picked up a different game than CBS-national was feeding (i hope all games will just be set on their specific channels this year). However at other times it was nice to get that whip-around coverage of one game ending right after the other.

Im no fan of the extra games though

It's available on DirecTV in SD, not sure what channel number it is because I don't have this channel in my favorites list.

I'd pay money to see Dayle Hinman and Vinnie Politan announce games on TruTV, but I'm certain that's not how it works.

Re: 2011 NCAA Basketball Tournament - TV Schedule

My only question is are all of the games going to be set by CBS/Turner as which channel they will be on? For example, say ISU made the tournament (I know...not going to happen, but thats not the point) and the game was put on truTV. Would local Iowa stations be able to switch it and say we want this game on KCCI so absolutely everyone can see it. They could theoretically just switch the two games. So basically the local stations would get to pick a regional game.

That is probably too complicated, but thats my only question with all this. Regardless, its going to be awesome to watch for 12 hours. Iowa State sucks and just reading that has me absolutely jacked for March Madness!

What would probably happen if they allowed a local affiliate to air it would be the local affiliate would air that game, and the cable channel that would show it would be blacked out. Doubt you'd see an extra feed of a cable channel. So you'd probably lose out on a game. Id rather everything just be on the normally assigned channels.
