Twister Sister Summary - Turnovers equals loss

This seems to be becoming a tragic theme for the ladies. Last night's game was one that saw the women overcoming several dominos that were stacked against them. AP didn't play due to a tweaked knee. KU was shooting like their lives depended on it. All of our posts would foul out of the game. Our guard play, for the second straight game, was poor.

The ladies were playing from behind from about the mid point of the first half onward. They wouldn't see a lead until the end of the game and it evaporated in a tragic (there is no other word I can think of right now) series of events. The ladies had built a 15 point deficit in the second half and yet, somehow, managed to scrap and fight their way back out of it. At the end of the game we had another "last possession" and Cole got called for a travel in the lane. This was even worse because the rest of the ladies just seemed to stand around rather than showing the urgency of the moment. OK...it went to overtime. For 4 minutes and 51 seconds the ladies fought. They built a three point lead with less than half a minute to go. We fouled KU and they would sink two to pull within one. We had the ball and would again turn it over giving KU a chance to win. KU would shoot and miss but grab the rebound. They would shoot again and miss. This time the jump ball would go to ISU with 9 ticks left. Then disaster struck. Mansfield made a "poor" "tough" inbounds pass that probably should have been handled. Instead it went off Harris and out of bounds. KU ball with 7 seconds left. This time they would score and the sisters would be facing defeat in the same fashion for the second game in a row.

What has become glaringly obvious with this group is that there is ZERO margin for error. Either the team is playing well (we had three Pop, Big C and Bolt score over 20 points) or we are scrapping for every parcel on the floor. Hindsight is wonderful, but I wonder if the ladies will be looking back to three games (and counting?) as ones that could have staked their claim as one of the best in the league. As it is we are finding out that they are good, they are scrappy, but the errors are killing them. Rather than sitting at 7-2 in the league we have three more losses that easily could have been wins.

    Gut check time.

Thanks for the write up. Your comments are right on!!! Turnovers, missed free throws, and fouls are killing us. We need to put this behind, do the gut check, and at least win out at home plus pick up a road win or two.

Acoustimac I love your use of the word "tragic" and think it is perfect for the sequence of events that occurred. It was literally a combination of every possible thing that could go wrong, and did go wrong. The KU coach was actually shaking her head and smiling in disbelief in her post-game presser, which only angered me more!

Re: Twister Sister Summary - Turnovers equals loss

Some other "gut check time" items of note: Our 4 wins in the Big 12 came against the three teams at the bottom of the standings. Our RPI dropped 10 spots after the OU and KU losses. Now we're 6th in the Big 12 in RPI, tied with Texas Tech but below Texas and K-State.

Unless we beat Texas, TTech and/or KSU we could find ourselves nervously waiting on the NCAA bubble. Right now Joe Lunardi only has 4 Big 12 teams going to the NCAAs.

Re: Twister Sister Summary - Turnovers equals loss

we have to keep in mind that we always struggle, or KU always plays well when we play in Lawrence, same could be said for CU and KSU.

I remember the last time we had a very discouraging loss at KU, similar to this situation, a game "we should have won," we went to the elite eight. I think we lost at Iowa that year too. :-)

This whole crap about Big 12 getting only 4 teams is just that, crap. The Big 12 isn't going to get 7, but right now, there are 7 in the discussion. I think TTU falls behind just because of their schedule. Texas, hmmm...same thing unless they beat us too, KSU has yet to play BU and AM.

I think BU, AM, OU, ISU, and KSU/or Texas gets in. Though, the Big 12 tourney in KC could be some important games, that's why we need to double up on KSU and beat Texas to secure the 4 seed.

Keep in mind, we all thought this was going to be a down year. I will take where we are at, even though we have 3 losses that were very painful to watch. This having to come back in the second half crap has got to stop.

Sounds like they need to play with more urgency. The season is drawing to a close. The men have had 6 tragic games.

Let my Fred's Posse Ride: Georges, Naz, Hogue, Bryce, Nader, Monte, Matt, and McKay.

They seem to lack that ability to finish, just like the men.

Every game they have won has been by a large margin. The could easily be 7-2 instead of 4-5 if they could just finish.
