    Any vitamin takers out there?

I've been taking a Centrum vitamin for many years, but just wondered if I should be looking into changing it up? I'm in my early 40's, a bit over weight, drink occasionally, exercise occasionally and eat just an ok diet. Maybe I'm good with the Multi I'm taking but just thought there may be an expert out there? Thanks in advance for any suggestions and why?

Were you told by a doc to take vitamins? Try changing your diet so you can get these vitamins and minerals naturally.

I will offer my story on centrum vitamins:
I had a dentist as my landlord. I was traveling salesman. I was telling him that I felt real stiff and sore when I traveled like from Baton Rouge to New Orleans(I was 65). He told me to take two Centrum or Theragran M vitamins for the first 30 days and one only in the morning the rest of my life. My result was that it really helped my health and stamina ever since. I have taking this for 22 years. I am going 77 years old and I still travel Louisiana selling trade show displays every day about 25000 miles per year. Try it and you might like it.

I want to correct the age I started taking the Theragran M in 1990 andwas 55 at that time and now I am 77 and working full time about 50 hours per week and feel real great. I am not selling vitamins.

Re: Any vitamin takers out there?

There are Vitamins that your body needs, but does not make itself. You get these from your diet. However, if you don't eat a completely balanced diet, and not many people do, a daily multivitamin would be a good idea. If you get extra vitamins that your body doesn't use, they usually just pass as waste through your urine. I can't see any real downside other than if you had a reaction with one of the vitamins.

Re: Any vitamin takers out there?

I do take vitamins and more than the multi per day, or at least on and off do. I think it depends on your needs as each vitamin/mineral has a different benefits. I tend to take them for certain situations. So, say for stress, I take B-Complex, or in the winter when getting less sunlight, I might take more Vitamin D.

As Bos said, if you can alter your diet, that is best I think, but it is good to have an idea what you are doing with vitamins. You definitely don't want to take too much of one that is not water soluable.

Depending on whose science you believe, vitamins are either extremely vital to your future quality of life, or pretty much useless.

Re: Any vitamin takers out there?

I take a multivitamin (Centrum) and its one of the few supplements that are proven to work and be beneficial to you.
You should take a multivitamin/mineral if your current diet does not allow you to get all of the recommended vitamins/mineral daily. For me, I just can't do it, because I don't like eating all of the fruits and veggies. And I'm not going out of my way to alter it, at least not yet.
If you can alter your diet to get all of your vitamins and minerals through natural foods, do that, because its better for you than a multivitamin. But, there is no harm in taking one if you can't get it all through food and it does help. They are a good boost to your immune system as well.

there's a fairly large body of work suggesting that most people in our latitudes should take supplemental vitamin D(3).

I've read that D is the only proven vitamin supplement that does any good.
That said, I take a generic multi every day when I remember.

    Then you're not thinking

I take a One-A Day (Hy-Vee version) and Vitamin C each morning. I haven't been deformed from it, so I guess it's OK.

I recommend Vitamin D supplements, especially during the winter to people of all ages. You can get liquid drops for kids and I use it with my own every day. If I feel something coming on, I'll up my dosage a little bit and it works great.

Like other said, a balanced diet will do wonders, but a multi vitamin can help too.
