    Send in the JHawks...

On paper this team looks better than their record shows. I hope we don't overlook this team and that we have regrouped from the OU lost. The Sisters have a chance to win out in conference play. If the posts show up and our defense is as good as the OU game we got this one in the bag. I think we win on the road by 10.

Here the names with no numbers this game:

    14 Boogaard, Krysten 6-5 C 7 SR 3L Regina, Saskatchewan//Archbishop M.C. O'Neill HS
    22 Brown, Marisha 5-9 G 7 SR 1L Kansas City, Mo./Arkansas-Fort Smith/Center HS
    21 Davis, Carolyn 6-3 F 3 SO 1L Houston, Texas//George Bush HS
    13 Engelman, Monica 5-11 G 3 SO 1L San Antonio, Texas//Madison HS
    23 Goodrich, Angel 5-4 G 3 SO 1L Tahlequah, Okla.//Sequoyah HS
42 Harper, Charlicia (CeCe) 5-8 G 1 FR HS San Antonio, Texas//Madison HS
    33 Jackson, Tania 6-2 F 2 RS FR HS Lawrence, Kan.//Lawrence HS
11 Jelniker, Brooke 6-1 G 1 FR HS Highlands Ranch, Colo.//Thunder Ridge HS

    Re: Send in the JHawks...

Our rpi is 29. KU is 74, one below NU. Those numbers suggest a win. But, our record is 16-6, KU is 15-8. We're 2-4 on the road and KU is 11-3 at home. Those numbers suggest a close game. Also suggestive is the personnel they put on the floor. 6-3 So. Davis is shooting 65.6 percent from the field. She leads the Big 12 and ranks second in the NCAA in field goal percentage. She averages a team-best 17.7 points per game and 7.3 boards. Sr. Boogard, 6-5 1,000 pt scorer doesn't start but gets about 5 ppg in relief. With 6-2 Jr. Sutherland, they are a tough front line.

Wins in Lawrence are tough to get - everyone needs to show up. Last year we won in Ames 53-42. Later in Lawrence we escaped with the 1st win in four years 57-54. We had a 1 pt lead when Lacey (still healthy) was fouled with 6.5 secs. left and hit two free throws to finish at 22 pts. Davis, as a frosh, was 7-9 from the field and finished with 17 pts. Davis is a tough draw - we'll see how Bill defends. Cole will probably be on Engleman, their #2 scorer. I prefer to outscore them.

Bonnie always likes to ugly it up against us. She feels it is the only way they have a chance to beat us. Bonnie's problem is she schedules a cupcake non-conference schedule then falls aprart in the conference season. This will probably be one of the most phycial games we play all year. It seems even after Marian Washington left, KU is still one of the roughest teams in the league.

    Re: Send in the JHawks...

Always a tough game in Lawrence and they'll beat us up defensively just as much as Baylor and A&M. KU is such an annoying team to watch and an ugly style. The RPI websites are actually predicting that we'll lose by 1 point, but I think we'll pull out a tough impressive 13-point road win. Poppens is going to have a monster game, I feel it.

Don't know what everyone else is smoking - KU is an awful team. Phog Allen wasn't too tough for Baylor - they beat KU by almost 40. An overrated OU team beat KU in Lawrence by 18. Good god, KU has even lost at Mizzou. Bonnie could be done after the season ends.
A loss to them tonight would be a bad, bad loss. Just sayin'.

True - KU is 15-8, but only 2-7 in conference. ISU should win. ISU should have beaten CU, a team which KU swept and crushed at home. We have a history of tough outcomes at KU and match-up issues with Davis. They have enough support on the front line and in the back court to prevent keying on her. We need everyone healthy and focused.

And that's what scares everyone. ISU doesn't have the overall talent to just show up and win. If we lay an egg (@Iowa, @ CU) we will lose this game. If we do show up to play, we will win barring KU going crazy and playing very well.

So far, this team has done a pretty good job of showing up. @CU is ISU's only loss outside the RPI top 25. On the flip side, Michigan is ISU's only win in the RPI top 50.

We have some losses that give you hope and a couple that are one's to forget. This is a team that when it is firing on all cylinders can play with and probably beat nearly anyone in the conference. Yes, even Baylor. (I'm only drinking punch from a reception...nothing in it).

KU was picked to finish in the top four of the conference pre-season by the coaches. Yes...ahead of ISU. That gives them instant credibility to me. We always struggle at Fog Horn Leg Horn Fieldhouse. Can we win? Yes. Should we win? Yes. Yet everyone who said it here is right...if we don't come with our good game we easily could lose. Our margin of error due to erratic play is just that thin.

Bonnie is in an interesting spot, many in Lawrenece want her gone because seven years is enough in their minds, but she was a favorite of Lew Perkins. Now that he is gone, it's hard to tell - does a new AD decide to clean house with her, or does the get a freebie this year?

We need to take the hammer to them early and end it, never give them a chance.
