Big 12 record the last ten seasons

I was curious so I went back and looked at our overall Big 12 record since our last conference championship in 2000-2001. Beginning in the 2001-2002 season including our current season we are 50-103 in the Big 12 conference. We have had only one winning conference record (2004-2005) in that time frame and no .500 seasons during that time span. Not good at all. Only one NCAA berth in the last ten seasons and that was under Morgan in 2004-2005. So the question is, did the Hampton game in the 2001 NCAA tourney start a curse that has yet to be lifted?

We have never been good in the Big 8/12. Look at Orr's records - he was constantly at or below .500. The only difference is they won at home and that was normally good enough to make it to the tournament.

As far as finishing close games, I wonder. Tinsley makes that lay up, who knows where we are now.

Orr was usually right around .500. We are 26 games under .500 in the last ten years. Big difference. Orr was consistently taking us to the NCAA tournament. The last ten years are way off from the success Orr had at ISU. We have simply lost our home court advantage. We already have 4 conference losses at home this season. I do believe Freddy will get it done but I hope he gets it done quickly.

Chik McGee from the Bob and Tom show picked us to win it all the year we lost to Hampton. When he announced his bracket before the tourney that year I knew we were in trouble. I just didn't realize it would last this long. DAMN YOU CHIK!! The curse is his.

Not to argue too much, but sans about 4 seasons Johnny was not usually around .500 unless your using a VERY generous definition of .500.To wit 79-117 overall in conference cumulative; 2-12,5-9,5-9,6-8,7-7,9-5,5-9,6-8,7-7,4-10,6-8,5-9,8-6,4-10 by season.38 more losses than wins in 14 years and less conf games per year.

1 NCAA tournament appearance in a decade. That's pretty damning. And now we're going to go 6 straight years of no postseason play at all, not even the now watered down NIT. Truly unreal, when you think about it.

I'll definately agree with that, even more since I live out of state. But I do think we are headed in the right direction now.

Re: Big 12 record the last ten seasons

Our B-ball success is over glorified, in the eyes of most ISU fans. We had a pretty decent run from the late 80's-2005. Since then, we've been a doormat. The potential is there however. We've had success, we just need to reach some higher points and maintain. Also, Hilton has the potential to be as disruptive as any venue in the country.

It is totally different ball game than football, where we really have no hope of building any sort of powerhouse program.

I can say this, living in KC, ISU gets very little respect outside of Ames, except for some Jayhawk fans that remember some tough days in Hilton.

I couldn't find it during a quick search, but I saw it posted last season, that ISU is one of only a few BCS conference teams without a postseason appearance in the past 5 seasons (not including this one). Also not very many without an NCAA appearance in that stretch.

DePaul is among those, I'm quite certain. And Oregon State. I think an SEC team is in there somewhere.

Nebraska and Northwestern in the no-NCAA bid category.

This is dismal company we're keeping.

Note: If you're referring to "now watered down NIT" I assume you mean adding 4 at-large teams to the real tournament ... and not the NIT itself. Because that's actually slightly more challenging since it dropped from 40 to 32 teams, is seeded and guarantees a bid for regular season conference winners that don't win the auto-bid. And still mostly meaningless (although this is one of those rare situations when I would gladly take a consolation prize.)

i agree is it a stretch we win five games? ya heck yes it is, but i think we shouldnt close the door this team. they are clearly trying to win still. i can remember a lot bball teams and even more football teams that woulda packed in at this point. there are seven of them. crap one of them is a walk on for godsake. i mean this team is far from terrible i care what there record is. they have left a lot to be desired, but the fact that place was over half full on satuday and our record is what is. compare it to nebraska, osu, heck colorado who has a winning record. did you see how many people were at the cu game? dang i think this teams definitely going in the right direction, and in fred i trust!!!!
