    McKnight and Lucious

I am sick and tired of people saying they want McKnight to leave so Lucious can come in and play. I know Lucious is good but he will only have one year. I would accept Lucious with open arms if we had a offer to give, do we? I have no clue. You guys don't realize that Mcknight had a lot of good offers(Iowa State, Boston College, Indiana, Maryland, Missouri, Virginia Commonwealth, Wake Forest and Wyoming. He wasn't offered on what he can do as a freshmen he was offered on his (POTENTIAL)!!! And most of the teams that offered would have had the depth to redshirt him. This keyword (POTENTIAL) extends to even the NBA like guys that were high picks based on potential like Derrick Favors and Deandre Jordan. Give him his red shirt next year and by the time he is a JR or SR i think he will be tearing it up. Wait and then watch.

I don't want Mcknight to leave before he can get a chance. If I was Freddy I would play him more. In the Florida vs Kentucky game Dick Vitale was saying that you put players on scholarships if it would really hurt that much to put them in for a couple minutes.

The "new" game of basketball is really strange for those who have been around a while. It seems like there were all sorts of players who were scrub time guys until their sophomore or junior year, and then stepped up to really contribute. I prefer that.

You said be patient in the other thread, but now you want him to play more? This kid is not ready at all. I think the guy that was being paid to scout players also realizes this. McKnight really needed this as a red shirt year. Hopefully he can next year. If he can work hard and improve I believe his potential is Tyray Pierson. Pierson was my Favorite player back in the day. The problem is, I don't really ever see him reach his potential. Which is like a lot of other basketball players that get drafted based on their "potential".

I said be patient but I obviously want him to get a chance so he can get some confidence. And yes, he could have used a redshirt. But you can't tell me Mitchell deserved to go in instead of McKnight. I mean Eric got a scholarship for a reason and before I say he is never going to be good and run him out of town all I want is for him to get a chance. Hopefully he redshirts next and gets better.

Fred thought so. Maybe Michell works hard in practice, and he wanted to send a message to McKnight that he has to work hard. McKnight has had a lot of chances. He is a post playing on a team without post depth, and still can't get playing time. I think that says a lot.

Note: Not saying he'll never be good, but its gonna take a lot of hard work, and I've never heard Fred mention how hard McKnight is working.

    Re: McKnight and Lucious

Here's the thing on McKnight, if he was good enough to play right now he would be playing. He's clearly not. Hoiberg had no preconceived notions about these guys. Way back in September when asked Hoiberg was saying that McKnight needed a lot of work.

I hope McKnight stays, I've said all along that I think Godfrey, Railey, and McKnight are very complimentary players.

The fb player coming in for McKnight means nothing really, other than it is possible that he is grasping the defensive concepts better in practice than McKnight and so Hoiberg wanted him in because of that.

If Lucious comes here we don't know who's scholarship he'll have.

    Re: McKnight and Lucious

I mentioned this in one of the other threads about this whole situation, but I have high hopes for McKnight, and am hopeful that he can stick around and develop and be a major contributor by the time he is a junior or senior.

The best part of this whole debate, as I see it, is that we now have a coach that I trust to make these decisions. He knows far better than me who has the talent to play in the B12. I can say that I quickly lost the ability to trust the last regime, but don't think that will happen with CFH and crew.

    Re: McKnight and Lucious

All the speculation about who's leaving is just guessing. McKnight is a pretty good bet but no more than that. The fact that we're bringing in Lucious means someone is leaving. I think the positive is that this can happen without turmoil. Think about it, we have a player leaving either by his choice or not that is most likely going to finish out the season.

Wasn't Tyray the one that was at one point 2nd in the country in field goal %, and when asked about it by a reporter, LE responded, "Too bad whomever he is guarding is #1!"
