Re: Williams Blog: Wrapping up the KSU heartbreaker

Good writeup. Do us all a favor and let's not predict Iowa State to win again ;)

I thought our effort today was as good as it has been for a while for 40 minutes. They played really hard. It sucks that they aren't getting rewarded at all. As a group they all look like they need therapy and a hug from a grandma. They just don't think they can win.

And as far as your comments about not personally attacking the officials (was it the scout team?!?), I understand what you are saying. But I can understand it today. We all have bad days at work. But we all don't compound our bad days by doing a hundred other things wrong.

And on Hoiberg, I agree that he looks a lot more comfortable out there. I'm choosing to believe that these late game collapses aren't mostly his fault since we have had 5 years of late game collapses. But since I am an Iowa State fan, I'm going to guess that I am wrong.

Chris, we had a 6 point lead with 2:48 to play. So it was later in the game than the 3:40 left to play presented in the blog.

Don't think thats true. I though JVB's three was our high point at a five point lead at the four minute timeout (around 3:30) I could be wrong here.

Re: Williams Blog: Wrapping up the KSU heartbreaker

It looked to me like Fred was really trying to get T'd up in the first half. He was way out on the court pointing at the ref a couple times, practically begging to get the T.

The refs were crazy inconsistent today, K-State was knocking our guys down like bowling pins around the basket with no calls. Frustrating.

I think it was a fan, Walters just tweeted about it. Is Dr. G, Geoffroy?

Re: Williams Blog: Wrapping up the KSU heartbreaker

It is getting old. Just have to live through this year, hopefully next gets better. I would like to see Fred try something other than let DG **** up at the end though. Heck, anyone can do that.

Nothing to see here mods. Keep moving.

Re: Williams Blog: Wrapping up the KSU heartbreaker

Whether it was 2 1/2 and or 3 1/2 left in the game, that's still a lot of time and a 6 point lead is far from safe. As far as the end of game strategy, who else do we have that can shake his man off the dribble and create something other than DG. Jake can sometimes get to the basket, but has to create a circus shot or it's blocked. With no inside presence and only one playmaker, we are extremely limited in our offense both during and at the end of games, and fortunately most of the time DG has created offense for himself and his teammates. It's just tougher at the end of games.
