I'm still confident that Fred gets it done

Like all of us, the recent slide has tempered my expectations for next year a little, but in the end, I do think we'll be a pretty good team next season. We've seen a repeating theme with close losses in the past month, but I still believe Fred will be a very good coach soon.

When you think about it objectively, Fred has very little to work with:

    -Limited athleticism
    -No depth
-4 players with previous playing experience + a little time from Bubu
-Players from Gmac's regime had no confidence
-No inside presence except a couple of young guys who are counted on too much in their FR year
    -Completely different style of play/system.....

Next year we'll see the following:

-Much added depth....huge for closing out tough games in the B12
-Much added athleticism.....huge for defense, rebounding and Fred's style of play
-Influx of players that are already 20 y/o with some maturity/physically ready to play
-Fred will learn a lot after analyzing his first year
-Returning players such as CG, ME, Bubu and Railey will be much better with a year under their belts....most of these guys weren't ready to play as much as they have and will likely benefit from being thrown into service next year.
-Swagger..... I think there will be much more confidence due to having a loaded weapon, as opposed to a makeshift roster......Much of next year's roster will have played together for quite some time, so it will be much different than only counting on a lot of FR to contribute

I agree. Next year at this time we'll all be jumping up and down like excited little girls.

I believe in Freddie 100%. No question in my mind that he is the right man for the job. He is learning on the fly, but he's an intense competitor. What's wrong will be fixed (and a lot of what's wrong is lack of talented depth).

Re: I'm still confident that Fred gets it done

2/3's the way through his first season with 4 returning players---including 1 who didn't play last year and 1 who is a redshirt walkon----there would be no reason to doubt any coach at this point.

We have been bad for the better part of 10 years. Not a shock that we are struggling this year.

I just feel for those 9 guys because it kills me to lose these close games and it has to hurt a thousand times worse for them.

How could anyone even question Freddy at this point with what he has to work with?

I agree. I think it's fair to judge some of his tactics and strategies (late game, specifically), but he's surpassed many expectations already this year.

Re: I'm still confident that Fred gets it done

Fred is gonna need, at minimum, a few (and by a few, I mean at least 4) years before you can judge him. This has become a throwaway year. Legitimate criticisms exist, but it's his first year of coaching ever. Mistakes will be made, especially in-game, and unfortunately that isn't going to help us if we continue to play in nothing but close games.

It will be an ongoing process in regards to Fred. What you hope is that he continues to get better and learn, which I believe he is certainly capable of. A few years should be enough time to try to get a decent mix of players in here. Hopefully the journey to those 4-5 years won't be painful like they were with McDermott, with no actual hint of improvement on the part of the team.

Yes, because preseason predictions were realistic given the state of disarray in the program. But Freddie gives me more comfort than other coaches might......kind of like my blankey versus an ordinary blanket.

I have faith because I know who is sitting on the bench and who is signed. If that wasn't the case, I would be worried.

Fred has taken this group of guys and pulled so much more out of them. We should be getting our brains beaten in if you go by the past few years.

Without a doubt if I followed ISU as closely as I do and knew our situation with depth and the history of the last four years, plus what he's done to upgrade talent that will be available next year (my apologies to Jake) I would support him 100%. We knew how tough this year would be coming in and actually won a few more games than I thought we would. I would support any coach that had done a similar job with what he has to work with. Yeah I would like a few more of the close conf losses to be wins but they have been more competitive than I thought they would be.

Yes, I would have faith in him or any other new coach of ours in his first year.

Love the way the players give all they have for him ! Wish we had some depth even the announcers on tv mentioned how our guys play whole game and it is a factor at end of game due to being so tired .. I didnt expect to see them in all of these games til the end !cant wait until next year ..
