    Another bonehead move by Selig

ESPN - Selig announces no discipline for Giambi - MLB

So Giambi admits he did roids and gets no punishment? Well Bonds might as well come clean now if he did too because if you aren't going to punish 1 guy you can't punish the other.

That's the beauty of it though. If he catches Bonds and erases all his records, Selig goes down with MLB mortality. Sort of tossing away the minnow to try and catch that largemouth bass.

So you would have rather MLB said "Stand up those of you that used." (which they did say that pretty much), Giambi comes clean and you want him to be punished?? No one else had the guts to come clean.

Re: Another bonehead move by Selig

Here's the thing about Selig. Can you name even 1 thing he as done to better the sport? I can think of way more things he's done to hurt it. Stern is probably the best commisioner of any of the pro sports and rules with an iron fist at times. Goodell is new but so far he's not shown much compassion for thugs either. Selig always has that confused and dumba$$ look on his face.

And looking like he just woke up from a nap then playing pocket pool with himself after Bonds hit #755 looked great too:

Put Pete Rose in the hall of fame now that he admitted he bet on baseball then we can talk. If you admitted to an unsolved crime, say an assualt or robbery you think they'd just say "oh well thanks for being honest about it, don't worry we won't punish you for it." Same thing goes here, if you want to rip on Bonds and anyone else you think did steriods I don't want to hear about astericks or whatever. Giambi still cheated and regardless if he came clean about it how about he gets stripped of his MVP or at least something? Cheating is cheating whether you admitted to it or got caught doing it.

Re: Another bonehead move by Selig

I am not a huge Selig fan by any means, but to say he has done nothing for baseball is off the mark.

He averted a strike in 2002.
Setup interleague play (good and bad in this)
    Added the Wildcard (HUGE WIN)
    Started revenue sharing
3 division formats in the AL and NL

    Those are some important things.

I'll give you that but the whole steriod-tainted era and the tied All Star game in Milwaukee then the stupid home field thing that came from that is what he'll be remembered for and his whole wavering on if he will or will not follow Bonds when he got close to the record is not helping his image either.

Baseball is in better financial standing under Selig. Otherwise he hasn't impressed me.

Looking at this incident as isolated, it seems to be an odd decision. Surely could set a poor precedent...for future offenses. As long as you apologize and donate to charity - you're in the clear!

Re: Another bonehead move by Selig

Needless to say that many of Selig's antics helped precipitate the near-2002 strike that would have killed MLB for good (how many fans would have come back after a strike that canceled the World Series just 8 years earlier?). Not to mention the "contraction" of the early 2000s. You don't mean to tell me that is aiming to have Minnesota contracted had everything to do with the Twins being a small-market team playing in a lousy stadium and not because his family owns the Milwaukee Brewers? Twins go bye-bye and Brewers viewership and market area skyrockets (supposedly, although I couldn't imagine anyone actually liking the Brewers if that stunt were successful). Last time I checked Milwaukee wasn't exactly in the largest market either, and the Royals are in a small market with pretty much a dead franchise. Sure. The Twins were the ideal candidate for contraction.

Giambi shouldn't be punished for being honest and saying something everyone knows.

Would you say this if Bonds comes out now and says he did roids? No double standards here...

I think you need to look at each situation seperately. Giambi was accused and came clean. Bonds has been accused, has had evidence provided he used and still won't come clean. Each crime should be weighed to how they responded to it. Giambi put himself out there for the punishment. Bonds is hiding from it. That's why pleading Guilty gets you a lesser punishment in the court of law.

There is no chance of Bonds being contrite about anything.
