Mike Taylor signs with the Iowa Energy

Here's the press release from the Iowa Energy ---

    ENERGY ACQUIRE GUARD MIKE TAYLOR
Former Iowa State Standout Played for L.A. Clippers in 2008-2009

DES MOINES, IA, February 4, 2011- The Iowa Energy have acquired former Iowa State guard Mike Taylor via the NBA D-League waiver pool the team announced today.

Taylor was selected in the 2nd round of the 2008 NBA Draft by the Portland Trailblazers and immediately traded to the Los Angeles Clippers, becoming the first player to ever be selected in the NBA Draft after playing that season in the D-League .

The 6’3” guard played in 49 games with the Clippers, averaging 5.7 points and 2.1 assists per game. On March 25, 2009 he scored a career high 35 points at Madison Square Garden against the New York Knicks.

As a member of the NBA D-League’s Idaho Stampede during the 2007-2008 season, Taylor averaged 14.5 points and 4.2 assists per game, helping the Stampede win the 2008 D-League Championship.

Taylor spent the 2009-2010 season in Serbia. He is expected to be in uniform tonight as the Energy play their 131st consecutive game in 1st place; against the Sioux Falls Skyforce.

To make room for Taylor, the Energy placed guard Jason Bohannon on waivers.

Tonight’s game starts at 7pm in Des Moines. Tickets are available at www.dahlstickets.com, by calling 564-8550 or at the arena box office.

Nice! The Energy sign an ex-Cyclone and ditch an ex-Badger all in one day? Sounds like a good choice.

Re: Mike Taylor signs with the Iowa Energy

Hey, I saw the game tonight. MT did play a little bit in the first half and about 4 minutes in the second. Frankly, he looked lost but since he just arrived what do you expect. Man, he is skinny .... looks like he has lost weight since ISU days. Really. Stinson is about a inch taller and outweighs Taylor by 20-30 lbs at least. Mike took a few shots and didn't make any that I could recall. Really not fair to judge him on tonight, though ... so all I will say is welcome back !!!!

OK, I will say something else. Boy, Curtis Stinson really runs that team well ... like an oiled machine. Nick Nurse has the dream job ... put the ball in Stinson's hands and let him do what he does so well.

Haven't been to an Energy game in a couple of years, have tickets to tomorrow night's game....so I'm happy to hear that MT is on the team now. Adds a little more interest for me.

Re: Mike Taylor signs with the Iowa Energy

My Mike Taylor memory will always be watching him shoot before the game. He would chuck up shots from just shy of half court and all sorts of other crazy 'horse' shots from anywhere and make an impressive number of them. Of course then the game started and at some point, for a few minutes at least, he would defy the stifling GMac offense and launch some ridiculous ill-advised shots. Another of those players who would probably have thrived much more, and certainly enjoyed it more, playing for our current coach.
