Help Backing Up Outlook Email Files

So frustrated with this stoopid Outlook Import / Export.

I exported some emails that I want to save. I exported them as a .PST file.
I did not encrypt the disc, or create any special password / permission.

then burned the file to a CD. I confirmed the session was closed so the CD could be opened on other computers.

But when I transferred the CD to my laptop, and tried Importing the files, I keep getting an error message stating, "File access denied. You do not have permission required to access the .PST

    What gives ???? Aggggghhhhhh.

Open outlook goto file then data file management then the data files tab. Goto that folder copy the files burn them to disk then import from that file.

It's been a while but my last experience with that I believe that fix was to copy the pst file from the CD to the hard drive of the lap top and then import it from the hard drive. I couldn't get it to import off the CD.

Once you copy it from the CD to the HD you may possibly have to reset permissions on it too. This talks a little about importing/exporting too and notes you need to copy the file to the local HD before importing: How to manage.pst files in Outlook 2007, in Outlook 2003, and in Outlook 2002

Re: Help Backing Up Outlook Email Files

Yes, it needs to be copied to the HD.

But I also discovered the .PST file was associated with Word, not Outlook and that's what it wouldn't open.

    Thanks for your replies!
