    Intramural Sports

I'm starting college at Iowa State this fall and am very big into sports. I have been looking at the intramural sports and the sports club and one im really going to try and do is the Iowa State Club Baseball. I also wanna do some things like football and basketball. How much do these activities interfere with school work? And what else can you tell me about them. Any help is appreciated.

I did Crew my last 2 years, and though it took a lot of time (20-30 hours/ week), it was probably one of the best decisions I made in college. It didn't really cut into school work time at all, although that did mean waking up for 6am practices a few times a week.

The intramural sports take no more than an hour, sometime between 6 and Midnight on Mondays through Thursdays. Definitely worth participating in several as they provide a nice opportunity to get away from the school work for awhile.

    Re: Intramural Sports

Intramurals are usually only one night a week so they don't effect school work at all.

    Re: Intramural Sports

I'm an officer of the basketball club...its a max 2 hours per week when we do fall or spring leagues.

Intramural flag football (no real football club to my knowledge) in in the fall and is an hour per week max.

Baseball club is a LOT more time invested, but if you're intelligent, being involved in all 3 shouldn't be that difficult depending on your major.

and to correct cyguytillidie, intramurals are Sunday-Thursday. Flag football can start as early as 3:00 on Sunday, then 5:20 on weeknights. Ice arena **** is late at night/early morning (I think last games are at 2?). Basketball club is a complete crap shoot. Intramural basketball is 6-12 Sunday-Thursday, but will probably change a little bit next year with State Gym opening up.

    Re: Intramural Sports

If intramurals affect your school work there is something wrong.

Intramurals are one of the best parts of Iowa State. If you are in the dorms you can generally get a team together pretty easily.

Obviously you never had intramural curling at 3 am the night before an 8 am test. Well starting at Mickeys at 9pm before the match (is that what you call a curling event) didn't help either.

I was suppose to have a 2:00 AM curling match last fall but it was a miss print. I think the latest I've had was like 12:15 AM.

I did as many intramurals as I could and loved it. You get to meet new people as well as stay in shape.

    Re: Intramural Sports

So it appears that I was wrong in several aspects, that's just the time frame I've experienced in my year and a half. The only intramural games that seem to be played after roughly 11 PM are events that occur at the ice rink.

Those who don't ref don't have room to *****. We don't exactly have fun dealing with all you *** holes either.

*not saying there aren't some terrible officials...but they aren't paid squat and shouldn't have to deal with bull **** from college kids who think intramurals are serious business.
