    Apartment Question

Hey fanatics got a question or maybe just some advice. Recently, moved into an apartment in ames, right across the hall from kelsey bolte to be exact haha.. Anyways we've lived here a month had people over one night. Last weekend it was my 2 roomates and I plus couple high school friends and our neighbor called the cops on us for noise. When the cops showed up they were almost laughin because there was no point for them to be there. Well we just received a fifty dollar noise complaint fine in our mail, because our next door neighbor is insane and keeps calling us in on very little noise if any at all. My question is what should i do about my neighbor and the fine? Kind of new to this aparment thing so i was just wondering if there was any thing we could do about it

is the $50 fine from the trip made by the police that were laughing? Or from another complaint?

Who is the noise complaint from? I am assuming the apartment managers right? Maybe see if you can get a copy of paperwork from the cops that came that says you weren't being loud. Other than that maybe talk to your landlord and tell them you didn't do anything wrong. If they keep pressing it and you get fined for something unfounded, make a noise complaint on them.

The noise complaint was from our neighbor, who then called the apartment manager who sent a letter with a fifty dollar fine attached to it

    1. Don't have parties on Sundays.
    2. The bridge has been broken, but if you plan on living at the apartment for more than a couple more months go and talk to the neighbors and first apologize and tell them you try not to have people over that much and if you're loud in the future to let you know.
    3. Apologize to management or explain the situation.
    4. Be a man. Accept the fact you were loud, don't blame the neighbors for being too sensitive.

Contact your apartment manager and tell um it is ********, and about the cops coming and the cops saying they didn't care because you weren't loud. If your manager still makes you pay see if you can get the paperwork from the Police Depart. Its a long shot but usually if cops get called somewhere they have to do paperwork on it, Ie

-responded to noise disturbance call at ,<your address>, claim was unfounded.
If you can indeed get ahold of this boosh all the evidence you need.

Disagree with this. Have had cops called on me before for not much. Lol really be a man? Don't you think if they were actually loud the cops would have told them to be quite?

    Apartment Question

Disagree that he should 'man up' and apologize. The neighbor is the one who is being a problem by calling the cops rather than coming to talk to them directly.

I'd check your lease and see if you get a fine if the cops don't register a complaint. Usually fines like that are reared to actual tickets, not just a neighbor being an ******* and not coming over to ask you to quiet down before calling the cops.

    Re: Apartment Question

I posed this question to my wife who works for a property manager here in Ames. She told me that the police department will send reports to property managers that summarize calls to their properties. These reports basically state the date, address, and the complaint, but no resolution is included. She thinks that it could be that an APD report to your landlord triggered the $50 fine since the landlord simply received notice of the police responding to a noise complaint.

Her recommended course of action would be to go to your landlord's office to discuss the situation with them. Go in calmly, somewhat apologetic, and innocent/surprised by the receipt of the fine (sorry if you think this is common sense. I don't mean to offend you, but it's amazing how self-righteous and indignant people get when they try to deal with their landlord). That meeting would also be the time to ask your landlord to check with the PD regarding the resolution of the noise complaint call.

If the landlord won't work with you, now is a great time to shop for a new apartment for next year.

This. The neighbor sounds like he needs to man up. Its like the little kid at school that runs and tells the teacher on anybody that tells him he smells.

    Re: Apartment Question

Who gets an apartment, I assume its Freddy, and expects it not to be a party and be loud on the weekends. They need to go off campus or go back to the dorms or something. Keep being loud. You only do college once.
