Re: WE ARE WHO WE THOUGHT WE WERE!

Enjoy the victories as they come. I was expecting about 12 wins total for the season, had McD still been here I would have thought about 10 wins. CFH had zero expectations from me this year but he has really impressed me throughout the season. I look for good things next season, hope to be competing for the #4 spot in the Big 12.

Re: WE ARE WHO WE THOUGHT WE WERE!

Yup. People got their hopes up after we had a good non-conference run against bad competition, but those wins were a blessing given our expectations going into the season. Consider:
    1. Our only sub for the 1-3 positions is a red-shirt freshman walk-on
    2. We are starting a true freshman out-of-position at the 4.
    3. We have only true freshman subs at the 4 and 5.
    4. We lost arguably the two best players and our starting center from last year's team that failed to even make the NIT.

Re: WE ARE WHO WE THOUGHT WE WERE!

Yeah, what were we thinking? That it was going to be a fast fix? Heck, we will not even make the CBA.

The only thing left that we can do is to win the Big 12 tournament. It would be nice to win one game at least.

Re: WE ARE WHO WE THOUGHT WE WERE!

It is disappointing to see us blowing games in the last 2 minutes. When it starts to be a recurring theme, that falls on coaching to get the problem fixed. I hope the coaches are up for the challenge because I'm growing tired of choking away games

Re: WE ARE WHO WE THOUGHT WE WERE!

I think these kids and this team are a little better than we thought they were, but momentum plays such a huge role. They were running on belief in themselves and playing with a chip on their shoulders. They've lost a bit of that.

There's not an easy game left on the schedule, and they're certainly not going to contend for the upper half of the Big 12, but if they can just pull out a win to get some of that momentum back, they could pull a few of these out.

Re: WE ARE WHO WE THOUGHT WE WERE!

    We have the following players:

DG- Pretty decent PG, but can't count on him to score for you in the clutch.

SG- Very one-dimensional player. Take away open 3 looks and he is not good. A 6th man caliber player that can spark you with some 3's.

JVB- Good from past he arc, but plays softer than most 2's in the paint. Man up with a smaller/athletic player and he's worthless.

Godfrey- Young, raw and energetic. Will be good down the road. Probably not ready to be counted on for more than a handful of minutes in the B12.

Ejim- Pretty much same as CG.

Bubu- Walk on PG, pretty much says it all. Very limited athletically.

Jake Anderson- Our best rebounder (not a good thing). Good leader, but limited scorer.

That pretty much accounts for 99% of minutes. We don't enough talent right now to expect better results than what we've seen, IMO. Hopefully next year we'll be more athletic, which means we should be able to defend and rebound better. That will help us in our transition game, which is the cornerstone of what Fred wants to run. Also, at a minimum I think we'll be much deeper, which will help the above. If we get any additional scoring ability at all, we should be Tourney bound.

This is a team that is not terrible. They are a few bounces away from being seriously in contention.

Well let's see. On a night when he went 1 for 6 on threes he scored 14 points, had 3 assists, 2 rebound, 2 steals and played pretty good defense. And played 44 minutes, more than any other player.

Re: WE ARE WHO WE THOUGHT WE WERE!

JVB gets crap for his defense, but remember how badly he was fouling in the first few games? His soft defense is as much about a need for him to not get into foul trouble as anything else.
