    Gold Rush: Alaska

Anyone out there watching this show on Discovery? Will they ever strike it rich? Is it me or is this show turning into a real snooze feast? What's your view of this show?

ive watched about 10 minutes, cause a buddy at work said it was interesting, but all I saw was a bunch of hillbillies up in arms over one of their lil bastards leaving graham crackers out and a cub bear coming into camp. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

    Re: Gold Rush: Alaska

Yes, I've been watching. Some thoughts about the show:
    1. They were so un-prepared, it wasn't even funny.
    2. They should have done a lot more research before attempting to mine gold. It has costed them so much money to correct their own mistakes. Mining gold, with a limited amount of time and resources, isn't a "learn on the go" type of job.
    3. The show is getting boring, actually it started getting boring a few weeks ago. I want them to find some freakin gold.
    4. Dorsey, the guy who left/got fired, has an epic beard and looks like a local alaskan who lives in the mtns and mines for a living, yet has no knowledge. It looks like he lives off of bear jerky and Keystone light.
    5. I think they will end up finding a decent amount of gold by the end, since they finally got everything right. I bet they make enough to break even on their costs and maybe enough to get back home.
    6. Earl will not renew their lease for next season, IMO.

    Re: Gold Rush: Alaska

i agree, i want to see them find some gold.

But they kind of went a bit crazy building houses and stuff and bringing their families before they really started mining.

If I went there, it wouldve been NO FAMILIES till the gold started flowing. They wasted a month or 2 fiddling with crap that did not get them mining...

I do want to see them succeed, but I can understand some old school alaskan miners shaking their heads.

    Re: Gold Rush: Alaska

i love the show. talking about not planning or researching anything before heading there. plus why wait as long as they did for some help?

If I wasnt getting anything after a week or 2 i would be calling that guy as fast as I could to see what I am doing wrong.

Also I think the owner of that land is crazy. I doubt there is as much gold there as he thinks it is. He just wants people to rent his land.

    Re: Gold Rush: Alaska

What was the point of bringing their families up to Alaska? Leave the kids and women at home and do some freakn mining. Dorsey was fun to watch. Really enjoyed his melt downs and reminded me of Hawk fan's behavior after they lose to Northwestern each year.

    Re: Gold Rush: Alaska

Yeah, I don't understand bringing up the families either. They were acting like it was vacation and just getting in the way (little girl going to hospital). I would not have brought them up until they had found enough gold to cover their overhead, and were starting to make a profit.

And Luke, I agree. I bet there are a lot of old miners watching this show, yelling at the TV on what they were doing wrong and how to get it fixed in a matter of a couple of days.

    Dorsey's wife was beyond annoying.

    Re: Gold Rush: Alaska

I watch the show, but it drives me crazy. It seems like they shot enough material to make about 3 episodes, but they have stretched it out to be about 12. They repeat themselves every 10 minutes and every thing is made overly dramatic. Yet still I watch. I dislike pretty much every character but I guess I watch because I think to myself, damn, it would be kind of cool to just chuck it all and try to go mine gold in Alaska. This show keeps me from doing it.

I do watch the show. These are some of the dumbest men on the planet. No way could you ever get enough gold to pay all the costs and support that many families. As a small business owner it is hard to watch the stupidity that comes out of that show everyday. Why do they need wood homes, They have campers. Stupid people interesting show.

I agree. Hopefully the show is picking up the tab for their original investments, because they should be up there roughing it with the minimal equipment needed to give themselves a shot. If you're going to take that kind of equipment and build such an infrastructure around the venture, you better have done your research and found some gold first.
