Peppers Fined $10,000 for Hit on Rodgers

Chicago defensive end Julius Peppers has been fined $10,000 by the NFL for his helmet-to-helmet hit on Aaron Rodgers in the NFC championship game that drew blood from the Green Bay quarterback.
Two people familiar with the fine say Peppers was notified Wednesday by the league. The people spoke on condition of anonymity because the fine has not been announced.

Re: Peppers Fined $10,000 for Hit on Rodgers

I thought the replay showed that Peppers' helmet hit Rodgers' shoulder first, then his helmet. Wasn't a direct helmet-to-helmet hit. I'd appeal this. Only 10k, but I don't think he should be fined.

I disagree. As soon as I saw the replay I thought it looked malicious. He launched towards his head.

You beat me to it. I still think in the replay Peppers' facemask hits Rodgers' shoulder first. Shouldn't have been a foul on him. I could see a flag being thrown on Briggs since his hand/arm hit Rodgers' helmet.

Someday the QB will drop back to pass wearing a jersey with an iPad on it. If you tap the iPad the QB will be named down, and the iPad will light up and play a loud sound through the stadium speakers. If any other part of the body is touched, it will be immediate expulsion from the league.

And it will be the Bear's QBs leading the movement.

All seriousness though, if anyone doesn't think that was a penalty then they didn't pay any attention to the NFL season this year.

Football is becoming a joke with these rules. Football is a heavy contact sport and if you don't want to hit/be hit then go play golf or bowling. JMO

Doesn't matter where first contact was made at all. The only thing that matters is that the crown of Peppers' helmet hit Rodgers square in the head. Penalty every time under the new rules. If he didn't get the penalty Briggs probably would have with the head slap.

I am not personally a fan of the new "protect the players like princesses" rules. But it is what it is I guess.

I know it doesn't matter where 1st contact was made, maybe it's because i'm not a fan of the new rules like you are. Should be more like the NFFL (national flag football league), poor qb's. I think Briggs should have been flagged, not Peppers. Just my opinion

Actually in a way reminds me of LJ's hit on Moeaki (Sorry not not a Hawk fan so don't know how to spell his name correctly) in the IA game a couple of years ago. Peppers had already made his move to make the tackle and if you look when he starts his tackling motion Roger's is pointed away from him, it's Rogers follow through and throwing motion that brings their helmets to meet. Just like it was Moeaki lowering his shoulder that lead to LJ's helmet to helmet penalty.

10k for that hit is ********. **** protecting the QB, I want the football I learned to love growing up where hits were hits and injuries were part of the damn game.

Yeah, I think we're on the same page here. I would be perfectly fine if the NFL left either hit unpenalized. They do get paid millions of dollars to go out there and play every week. Nobody is forcing them out there, they can go get regular jobs like the rest of us if they are scared of getting hurt.

The only thing I was saying was, according to the rules, the play was probably called correctly.

It was a penalty, but I don't think it was malicious. It looked like Rogers turned slightly into him at the end.
