Probably fired for stupidity. As a salesman you don't antagonize your customers.

Maybe it's just a publicity stunt.

I see your point, however, loyalty is a virtue. I proudly wear cardinal and gold in Iowa City. Apparently, he's a man of principal.

He'll make more money off of this than he ever would have selling cars.

It's not like this guy is the only Cheese-head in Chicago. It's what, 200 miles apart? Let the guy wear it. It's one day. Let him have his glory. I'm sure his co-workers would have been all over him had the Bears won. I'm sure there wouldn't have been any consequences either.

Wow, sad. I'd have been toast already here in Omaha if people were as big a D Bags as that guy had to deal with.

Re: Car salesman fired for wearing Packers tie

I am pretty sure I would get fired also if my boss asked me to take of my ISU clothing. Sounds like this guy might make more money after the fact then we would of selling cars. I do like that he stuck with his loyalty.

Dude got asked 5 times to remove the tie, and was fired for being disobedient. Selling cars is all about the customer, not the desires of the salesman.

Re: Car salesman fired for wearing Packers tie

...said he was offered 5 chances to remove it. Then on the other hand, the stupid neck-tie has nothing to do with the performance of the job. But now I can only wonder how that car dealerships numbers will fall.

edit; makes you kind of wonder what might have happened had he wore the favorite team of the GM.

    Wouldn't be surprised.

Back in 1998, when the Vikings were getting ready to play the Falcons in the NFC championship season (and in all likelihood it seemed, go and win the Superbowl), the city of Falcon Heights, Minnesota changed their name to 'Viking Heights'.

No kidding! Why do I got the sudden feeling we're going to see him on the "Today" show tomorrow morning? ...and wearing the tie!

This is exactly what I was going to say. I heard people saying that he has the right to express his loyalty and all that, which he does, but he has to recognize he is in a business where there is supposed to be a premium on pleasing the customer. He was purposely doing something that, right or wrong, had the potential to turn away business and an employer does not have to accept that.

There are a couple businesses in my area that I've had occasion to consider for hiring and I've not done so because they have Hawkeye logos on their vehicles or reference the Hawkeyes in their business name. Seriously, I've got nothing against the Hawkeyes, I married into a Hawkeye family and we all play nice together in the sandbox, but I just think it's bad business to intentionally do something that might alienate part of your customer base.

I doubt he was the only salesman on the lot that day. If you are really that offended, why not ask for another salesman? Would he make many sales that day, probably not, but that's his loss. No reason to fire him.
