Todd Collins Injured Shoulder Against Packers

When the Chicago Bears inserted Caleb Hanie into the NFC Championship Game with 57 seconds remaining in the third quarter, it seemed like a curious decision.

Yes, Jay Cutler was unable to play with a sprained MCL in his left knee and backup Todd Collins stunk in two short three-play series. But by turning to Hanie, the designated third quarterback, before the fourth quarter, it ensured the Bears could not play either of their first two quarterbacks in the remainder of the game. Even if Hanie was injured, Cutler and Collins were then ruled out because Hanie had played before the fourth quarter.

As it turns out, Hanie was the only remaining healthy quarterback. According to Albert Breer of NFL.com, Collins suffered a potentially serious shoulder injury on his final snap, an incomplete pass. Packers nose tackle B.J. Raji hit him on the play.
Collins is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Tuesday and surgery could be required, meaning the Bears would be on the hook for rehabilitation for the 39-year-old veteran. It also could signal the end of Collins' career.

I can't believe Collins quit on his team like that, he's a loser, he'll never win in this league.

    Oops, wait, wrong guy.

Didn't this exact same thing happen in the game against the Giants earlier this year?

I hope the Packers can knock 2 of Pitt's QBs out of the game as well.

I'm surprised that Collins didn't hurt himself warming up. Really, how old is that guy?

You'd better hope it's both of them considering the start they had with their back-up this year.

I can't believe the coaches put collins ahead of hanie after the carolina game.

Hanie was the number 2 for the next 2 games, but then apparently Collins showed "improvement".

I actually wish the Pack would have not hit him so hard. Normally it's nice to get some licks on the QB. However, I was fine with Collins QBing. If he continued being the Bears QB the Bears would not have scored a point.

I have to assume he was going to get pulled whether he was hurt or not. Lovie is not the smartest coach out there but he had to realize they had absolutely no shot with Collins out there.

If we are playing the "if" game, I think that "if" Hanie hadn't thrown the pick to Fat Albert, the Bears might easily have won. So, if Hanie played the two series that were wasted on Collins (and most of Cutler's for that matter) we have a very interesting game.
The thing that gets overlooked in the rush to bag on Cutler is that the great Aaron Rodgers didn't look like he wanted to be out there, himself. Once he threw the ball to Urlacher, he looked like a guy hoping for continuous clock.

If Todd Collins comes in and looks like anything resembling an NFL QB there's no where near as much vitriol directed at Cutler. The fact that Collins looked so terrible made it look really bad for Cutler. People were thinking, you know Todd Collins is your backup QB and you're still not going to try to come back in?

If Hanie comes in and moves the ball right away, the Cutler injury is just a footnote to the game, not this huge story.

"If" Rodgers doesn't throw the pick to Cue Ball Urlacher, the Packers go up 21-0 and the game is pretty much over. I didn't see anybody playing the "if" game, except for the guy saying if Collins continued the game the Bears might not score. Which doesn't seem to be a very unreasonable projection if you watched him play at all.

BS, I'd like to see some proof of this. Blatant example of trying to throw **** at the wall and hoping it'll stick.
