Perry Jones as a #1 pick?

Just getting opinions on this. In the 4 Baylor games I've seen this year, he's looked pretty good, but I don't know if I am seeing a #1 seed which a lot of people are projecting.
If I was looking at someone that size I would probably take JaJuan Johnson or Jared Sullinger over him. Talent wise Kemba Walker has impressed me a lot this year too.
Not sure if it's Scott Drew being a terrible coach but I'm just not seeing at all yet...

Sullinger would be my top pick right now. All those cats are impressive, tho. I think it depends on who can create their own shot the most consistently.

I think he will go ahead of Johnson and Sullinger. He's a more explosive athlete than either Sullinger or Johnson and he's also much more raw, which NBA teams will see as a positive as they are drafting him based on potential. Johnson is a fourth year senior, you pretty much know what you're going to get with him, he doesn't have the upside of Jones. Sullinger, while just a freshman, is extremely sound fundamentally but he's not a world class athlete like Jones.

I think both of them are better players than Jones but I would expect Jones to go ahead of Johnson for sure and probably Sullinger. I'm not sold on Walker being successful in the NBA yet, he's undersized for a two and there's not a whole lot of volume shooters playing point in the league.

Kemba Walker, IMO is Allen Iverson. Undersized, yet pretty damn good and it will come down to what a team needs.

    Or so I have read.

That's a good breakdown CyJack. The potential probably does over ride current talent and what they've done but I would be scared to use a #1 pick on him.

Perry may have upside in three years that makes you a top pick. Three years. Like banking on Jerome O'Neil to get good. It will take time. He almost is as good as the best player HB.

The problem with that strategy is he has an option to be a free agent after 3 years, and almost certainly after 5 or 6. So like in O'Neil's case the team that drafted him, Portland, got a bust. His next stop, Indiana, got an all star for a few seasons.

D wade was a 4 year senior wasnt he? some people just blossum playing the nba style over college. Id prob take Johnson first. Sullinger is an undersized pf. But I really haven't looked into who all is expected to go where. What about HB? winkyface

You realize that Kevin Garnett wasn't exactly an NBA force as a 19 y/o? It's the potential of Jones at 22 that they are looking at, not the player he is now.

    Paul Rhoads' players never quit.
    (They just disappear offseason)

By this logic, Eric McNight should be spoken about as a top pick because he has huge potential.

(Not bagging on McNight, just trying to highlight that this kind of thinking could make anyone a top pick)

I don't think Sullinger will be a great pro. I think he'll be fine and have a nice career but not what you expect form a first pick. Not that I know who I'd pick before him. The kid from Kentucky has "upside".

I think that's why I would take Johnson too. You'll know what you get with him.

Yeah I don't think Sullinger will be an All NBA type, I could even see him coming back to OSU next year, but I also don't think there's any chance he's a bust. I know everyone wants to hit a home run with the top pick and Sullinger doesn't have as high of ceiling as some other players but I think he will be an automatic 12/8 guy from his rookie season on. Sullinger's post moves are unbelievable for a 19 year old kid, but that also means there's less room for him to improve. Terrence Jones and Perry Jones both have much more upside than him, but they also have much greater chance to be a complete bust. I really wanted to see Enes Kanter get the chance to play at Kentucky this season, he could pass all these guys up and become the top pick.

Bobby Knight wasn't very impressed with him or anyone else on the court last night.
