KU, KSU, and Mizzou to the Big East?

I was just on the Baylor board on Rivals to see what they were saying about getting Kyle Boyd and ran across a thread about KU, KSU, and Missouri going to the Big East.

And this sounds VERY serious! It sounds almost imminent.

This would be the death of ISU folks.

ATTENTION JP AND GG: you had better be VERY pro-active IMMEDIATELY!

It sounds like Kansas is very ticked off about the new Longhorn Network. They want out bad. And there is no mention of ISU anywhere.

This could get really ugly folks. It would be just us and a bunch of Texas and Oklahoma schools. We would not survive that.

I say we try to go along with KU, KSU, and Mizzou to the Big East. What are our other choices at this point?

    This doesn't sound good.

I'd be curious to read this. Can you provide a link?

Never argue with an idiot. They will bring you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

Done deal from what I hear. We play KSU on Feb 5th, but the rest of the games with those three this season are cancelled because they're busy moving. Maybe that's why Mizzou was playing out of their minds last night, because they were trying to show off for all the Big East chicks?

Here is what is posted on the Baylor board.....

    By Jason Johnson
    published: Wed., Jan. 18 2010 @ 8:00AM

Could JayHawks be headed east? Maybe.

The conference realignment talk apparently isn't ready to die, and the latest developement has the Kansas Jayhawks looking east, and taking Missouri, and Kansas St with them to the Big East Conference.

Austin American-Statesman columnist Kirk Bohls dropped two sentences in his Sunday column that describes how the University of Kansas is being proactive and currently in talks with the Big East about a possible jump from the Big 12 to the Big East, sometime in the near future. Kansas athletic administration officials are very intrigued and excited about possible membership for Kansas basketball in a Big East Conf that would totally dominate college basketball, with the addition of Ku, Ksu, and Mizzou.

    From Bohls' column:

I keep hearing Kansas is talking to the Big East. Who would blame the Jayhawks for looking, since they were nearly left out in the last realignment merry-go-round by Texas Longhorns a few others?

Should Texas decide to go independent or bolt for the Pac-10(12), then the North schools like Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri and will need to find new homes. Kansas isnt willing to wait for the other shoe to fall apparently. Their new home could be -- and almost was -- the Big East.

On his weekly radio show, Jayhawks basketball coach Bill Self confirmed that KU along with Missouri, and Kansas State were and are ready to go to the Big East. Via CBS Sports:

To be honest with you, Kansas could be making the same announcement that TCU made recently. Kansas State will in there too, when the conference realignment was going on, Kansas and Kansas State made it clear they will not separate.

So if and when this happens, I think it's a smart move, and probably really great for BigEast newcomer TCU too, so I see no problems with it.

That's good news for KU, KSU and MIZZOU, schools that could end up in non-automatic qualifier conferences if they dont do something proactive now.

The funny part about this to me is assume for a second it's true. Where does Baylor end up? I see 3 options independent, C-USA and the WAC.

Villanova Looks Like It May Be Big East Bound For Football - Bryn Mawr-Gladwyne, PA Patch

Villanova is still considering joining the Big East for football and wont make a decision until April. If Villanova, KSU, KU, and MU all join the Big East, that is 13 teams.

13 team conference sounds like a good idea to me. Just ask the MAC how that's going. Nevermind the huge financial hit the 3 north schools would take by leaving the Big 12.

You guys can all laugh this off if you want, but if there's any bit of truth to any of this at all, it's very serious news.

TCU has already announced they are going to the Big East. It only makes sense for a conference to at least add an even number of teams. So I doubt they would bring in KU, KSU, Mizzou, TCU, and ISU.

And if KU, KSU, and Mizzou do bolt, do you seriously believe that ISU will survive... or that the Big 12 will survive for that matter?

I hope JP and GG aren't laughing this all off like you guys are? If we get the chance to jump ship to another AQ conference, I think we should. Texas is ruining the Big 12. I really think they are going to go independent at some point. We had better start getting pro-active on this.

Was the money difference talked about? That reason alone makes this absurd. I can see that they are talking to the BigEast if Texas ends up bolting, but they won't make the first move. It just doesn't make sense financially.

Also, when this has been discussed in the past ISU typically isn't included in the list by the KC or Missouri media. Hopefully this is just because ISU isn't in their broadcast area as everyone else seems to have ISU lumped in this group.

Re: KU, KSU, and Mizzou to the Big East?

When discussing conference realignment, the first rule is to NOT think like a fan. You must think like a CEO. No CEO in their right mind would leave the Big 12 TV money for the Big East TV money.

I have no doubt that KU, KSU, MU, ISU and Baylor are all talking to the Big East. You must have contingency plans if the Big 12 does explode, but there is a big difference between talking and acting.
