    Where we are

Let me open by saying when Fred was announced I was unimpressed. Thought it was an easy hire for Pollard and would buy him another 5 years. Less than a year later I am ready to say Pollard might go down as being a genius on this one.

I watched Hoiberg coach circles around Drew last week, and in watching TAM and K State today, I didn't see any potential John Wooden's there, especially in purple.

I think we can hold our own with both those teams, even this year, and with Fred's recruits, look out.

Kansas will always be Kansas, and there isn't anything we can do about that, but I think over time, we will field teams that can compete, night in, night out, with Big 12 schools, and win our share, at home, and ON THE ROAD.

We might get beat handily tonight, Missouri is good and they play great D, which could wear us down. That won't get me down, because in my mind, Fred is playing with house money the rest of this year, and he will get us to the post season, something we haven't done in 6 years.

So sit back and enjoy, this ride is going to be fun.

A diversionary note - Creighton and McD just lost again by a point after blowing a lead against MO State 67-66. No looking back. Fred is Us.

CFH HMagic bball season next year.
Let my Fred's Four Horsemen ride: Georges, Hogue, Nader, and McKay.

    Re: Where we are

Missouri's D is way overrated. They play a unique defense, but it's not especially good. Iowa is marginally better, for instance.

What are you on? 40 minutes of press after made basket will be much harder for us and the limited bench. I'll take Iowa's slow down defense everyday over Mizzou.

    Re: Where we are

It's probably too early to tell for sure, but it sure seems like Hoiberg can coach. I know the close losses late are disturbing, but I wouldn't quite call it a trend yet.

I think the thing for me is just watching the players. They seem more confident and happy and they seem to make the adjustments that the coaches tell them to. That's half the battle.

A KU fan that has nothing nice to say about Mizzou. What next, a cop eating a donut?

This may be the first time I've ever agreed with you. There defense isn't a good matchup for us, but it isn't an especially good press. Two good ball-handling guards could kill it. Unfortunately we have one, and I think he is closer to good than great.

    Re: Where we are

I have watched basketball a long time and consider myself to be very knowledgeable about the sport. Fred Hoiberg has done a great job. No doubt about it. Coach Lutz was a great hire and has already paid dividends. From and X's and O's standpoint the staff has done very well. The thing that everyone has noticed is the improved morale and better team play; people hustle and really enjoy playing together. This overshadows the X's and O's but to be sure Fred has made very few mistakes in that area and that is really amazing given his lack of experience.

You know, I wasn't really skeptical of the hire nor was I all gung ho about it. I took more of a "lets give him a chance" and "lets wait and see" kind of attitude. He has far exceeded my expectations in every regard; nuff said.

I agree with everything except I was pretty high on the hire. After 1 bad loss in 20 games to a very good team I still am.

    Re: Where we are

The only close loss late that I had a problem with was OSU. We should have won that game, and IMO not having the guys ready to defend Page off the screen was a coaching problem.

I am also a fan of fouling the other team in those situations and putting them on the line. That is more of a philosphical difference though than a coaching problem.

Overall it's hard not to be pleased with Fred. We had a pretty tough slate to open the conference season and now we have a bit of a break. I hope the guys get some rest this week so they can bounce back. IMO they can still win 5 more Big 12 games plus one in the Big 12 tourney to get to 20 wins. There isn't any real significance to that number anymore other than the psychological but that can be a real boost heading into next season.

I would add NU to that, but not to the same degree. Having a 4-point lead and possession but not finishing, that was disappointing. But the team also rebounded from a poor first half in that game, despite foul trouble and a less-than-productive Christopherson.

OSU game was worse because ISU squandered adequate leads several times.

I would take a 1-1 vs. those two teams at this point.

Really? In this case considering the number of offensive rebounds given up off of missed FT's in that game?

    Re: Where we are

The NU game was disappointing, but IMO if Scott is healthy the ending isn't in question at that point.

I'm always a fan of fouling and putting them on the line. It essentially makes them make three plays to one (they have to make one shot, miss the second, get the rebound, make another shot to tie or win) or they can make one shot to tie the game. I'd much rather have a controlled situation decide the game as opposed to a wild run to the other side of the court when the defense isn't set up.
