    Pollard Reaction to Texas Network

Pollard: Texas deal 'positive news' for Big 12, Iowa State - Iowa State Daily: Sports - Pollard: Texas deal 'positive news' for Big 12, Iowa State: Sports

Anyone think Pollard might be sugar coating this a bit much. I know his job is to spin, but I think he may be overreaching a bit. I am one not to count their eggs until they are hatched, so I would doubt this has much to say about the whole Big 12, except that ESPN is willing to pay lots of money to Texas.

Re: Pollard Reaction to Texas Network

Reposting what I posted in the other thread:

This financial model the B12 has and the liberty it is offering schools is actually beneficial and potentially attractive to more big name schools (i.e. Notre Dame).

The B12 is actually now positioned as one of the strongest conferences due to the flexibility it offers member schools to generate other streams of revenue. The B10, SEC, P10 know this and are trying to undermine it with the "noise" the B12 is unstable and the other member schools outside of Texas are unhappy. If anything, the B12 is closer and more stable than ever before.

The B12 is going to get the last laugh in all of this in a big way before all is said and done.....just watch.

Re: Pollard Reaction to Texas Network

Well, with this network in place, Texas can't go to another conference. No other conference would allow them their own network. So it's Big XII or independent. So I'd say it does strengthen the conference in that respect.

For Third Tier Rights, the deal is a monster. Probably ensures that Texas sticks with the Big XII. ISU gets some exposure with minor sports.

It makes a person imagine what the BIG Deal will be for the Big XII Football TV Rights. Could be HUGE.

Think how much more Texas got, from ESPN, than projected. It would be great to see the B12 TV deal exceed expectations too.

"I'm proud to lead this program and this team in whatever we do. Whether it's a community service project, or through practice or winning a bowl game, but you don't do that without the kids believing and being all in, and going out there and accomplishing all [of] the goals and expectations that we set." - Coach Paul Rhoads

Re: Pollard Reaction to Texas Network

I think this is why its exciting to ISU and some of the other schools in the Big 12. The Big 12 needs Texas. This subsidizes Texas from any increased money they could have made in another conference. It allows them to get their market value and keeps the conference which they are the top dog at least politically in place.

Its positive for ISU because even under the old(actually current) tv deal the Big 12 is getting is 3x as much as the Big East and probably about 6x more than the Mountain West in TV revenue, and of course ISU's share under a proposed new deal for the Big 12 is supposed to double.

Re: Pollard Reaction to Texas Network

When the new TV comes out, ISU stands to get an increase of $5-$10 million annually. Which will boost their athletic revenue 12-22%. That's a great thing.

Yes, Texas is loaded. What's new? The nightmarish scenarios being presented by some are nothing more than conjecture.

I think he's spot on. This is a good thing for ISU and the Big 12.

so will they only be broadcasting home events? I'm assuming the home team controls broadcast rights. Meaning we'd get a cut if the event was in Ames.

Not that TX needs any help recruiting. But I can only imagine how much goodwill they are going to get from the top end TX high schools. "Send us your top kids and we will broadcast your games on our network."

Uh, Texas already gets the top Texas HS players.

That's the beauty of this. The law of diminishing returns means Texas really can't get any more appealing. We, however, can.

Actually, this could hurt us in sports other than Football and Men's basketball, since Texas can tell recruits in those sports that they'll be on TV far more often. Since ISU tends to do pretty well in these sports, this could hurt us there.

I think JP nailed it pretty good. How many times has ISU soccer been on ESPN? It will be now...
