Plea Deal in the Works in I-29 Motorcycle Deaths

Prosecutors and defense lawyers are close to working out a plea bargain in the case of four motorcyclists who were killed last August by a pickup driver on Interstate 29 in Iowa.
The plea deal in the case of Andrew Schlichtemeier is not final, and a trial could still take place.
But a hearing on the possible plea agreement has been scheduled, one of his lawyers said Tuesday.

As long as the plea deal includes him in prison for the rest of his life I am ok with it. It is people like this that need to be off the roads forever.

They are pleading not guilty essentially because he was too drunk to consent to being checked for intoxication? That's among the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. How does his attorney sleep at night?

As the article states, that motion was withdrawn, and it's his attorney's job to provide the best defense that he possibly can. He should lose more sleep for not doing so.

My guess is his lawyer is trying to get him 4 counts of vehicular manslaughter instead of vehicular murder. I would imagine the penalty would be substantially less

They say country music speaks to the heart. Unfortunately, it has to go through your ears to get there.

With a .373 he deserves the murder charges.

My guess would be he gets 10 years for each person he killed. He will be out of prison in 20 years.

This guy should be in jail for life. There should be no deals offered or accepted.
