Holy misleading thread title Batman! I'm not sure what is happening with ISU's Olympic training program, but this article has exactly nothing to do with it.

    No kidding.

Des Moines/Ames didn't even bid on the event. Can't host if you don't submit a bid.

This. ISU is still the regional training site, which means our wrestlers get a chance to compete with the best every day. I don't think Ames even put out a bid for this.

Ames/Des Moines didn't put in a bid for this... we're still a regional training site, and guys from the Cyclone Wrestling Club will be competing at the trials.

The fact that Iowa City won something doesn't automatically mean that Ames lost.

Does everyone realize Iowa is also an Olympic Training Center? And was before we got one in Ames? Seems like a lot of people think this gives us some huge advantage or something.

I support the Cyclone Wrestling club because I want to make sure we continue to have Olympic caliber guys like the Paulsens hanging out in Ames. The fact that Iowa is also an Olympic training center doesn't change that. If anything, I'm proud that our state can support two separate Olympic clubs. It does give us an advantage over most programs, though not other longtime elite programs like Iowa. Having Jackson is also a plus in this regard, since he was a longtime national Freestyle coach. Iowa State remains a very top tier program for any recruit who wants to win an Olympic gold. There are very few programs who have guys who have done that deed as head coaches, as we are one of them.

Touche - well put Jodoka. This only makes Iowa stronger.

    Couldn't "we" there mean "ISU"?

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.
Make this one for the ages!

that's what he is saying. however, he uses "we" when referencing the hawks on their message boards as well. so he's a hawk fan on their sites and a clone fan on ours. i don't get it.

    HawkeyeReport.com - Message Boards

here he refers to mcdonough as "our" 125 pounder, yet mcdonough wrestles for Iowa, and not Iowa State.

yet he will claim there are 2 SPOONERS, 1 a hawk wrestling fan and 1 a cyclone wrestling fan. for being a niche sport, it's a little ironic to think there are 2 different ones using the exact same name on 2 rivals message boards.
