College Football News 2011 First Look Rankings

...has Iowa State at #76, and ninth in the Big XII next season.

    76. Iowa State
    2010 CFN Final Ranking: 74
    2010 Record: 5-7
    2010 CFN Preseason Rank: 63
    CFN 2010 Preseason Prediction: 4-8
    2009 Final Ranking: 67
    2008 Final Ranking: 110

The Cyclones have the unenviable task of trying to improve in the new Big 12 without its main weapons. Gone are QB Austen Arnaud and RB Alexander Robinson, and two good starters, Alex Alvarez and Ben Lamaak, are gone from the front five. The defense needs to carry things for a while with seven starters coming back.
    Other Big XII team rankings:

    #3 Oklahoma
    #7 Oklahoma State
    #14 Missouri
    #17 Texas A&M
    #19 Texas
    #34 Baylor
    #36 Texas Tech
    #48 Kansas State
    #84 Kansas

Preseason top five (in order #1-5) is Alabama, LSU, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, and Ohio State.

It also surprisingly says it had us at #63 at this same time last season, but went on to predict we would finish with a 4-8 record. We ended the 2010 season at #74 according to CFN.

Wouldn't surprise me one bit to see this publication (and others) predict a 2-10 season for the Cyclones. They don't have ranked within striking distance of any teams higher than us and most if not all publications will have us going 1-2 in non-conf.

Sound about right for ISU. KSU seems a little high at #48.

Is TTU the new KU? I dont see them being that good next year. And then Texas will miraculously fix their problems, I guess. Good recruiting only goes so far.

Is Missouri really better than A&M? I don't think Missouri wins 11 games without Gabbert and the fact Iowa's freshman running back torched their defense for 200+ yards in the bowl game doesn't give me the impression they are a top-20 team next season.

I love how KU & KState get the benefit of the doubt. KState loses their biggest playmaker but whatever. SJohnson and soon to be named QB will have something to prove.

If you ask the basketball analysts outside the state of Iowa I think you would be surprised to hear their responses. Iowa was pegged as a preseason top 5 team by one ESPN analyst and is ranked in the vast, vast majority of preseason top 25 polls

They lose their biggest play on defense too, but they have 10 returning starters on offense and I half of the defense returing.
