AMES, Iowa – Janet Lovell has been leading a double life. The executive assistant to Iowa State athletics director Jamie Pollard has been recognized by the Iowa Mentoring Partnership for her work with Youth and Shelter Services through its Great Relationships in Pairs (GRIP) mentoring program. GRIP recognized Lovell's work with the mentoring program as part of its National Mentoring Month 2011 celebration.
I had an opportunity to meet Janet this past fall. It was right after that ISU student, Jonathan Brown, was killed after a football game. She was hosting his family in the AD office during the Utah game, and it was impressive to see her compassion. She's just an incredibly nice person.
"What a horrible night to have a curse."
"Please bury me with all my stuff, because you know it's mine..."
"Passersby were amazed by the unusually large amounts of blood."
