    At 14-4

Would anyone Honestly say that with 4 close loses under a faster offensive style that if Craig had returned that we would honestly be undefeated? The KU game is the only one I question just because of their depth, but I know he would have helped a lot in stopping the Morris twins....

Because our bench is so short, it would have helped.

 I don't really care if Craig stayed here. I'm glad hes gone. I like this team we have now and the teams we are about to have in the future.

This is Monday internet talk leading up to the next big game. CB was going pro. Ham was going to sit out a year and it was a strange move. Dendy and Colvin were probably going to leave for various reasons anyway.

Exactly. Any big guy from last year, Ham, Dendy, Craig, would have helped due to lack of depth. It would have allowed Ejim to come off the bench to play his natural position.

My point is we need to enjoy what we have now and not stress over what if this and that happened.

No I do not. The egos were much of the problem with the team last year. Maybe CFH could have kept him in line, but I don't think that we would see the effort and team atmosphere that we see if either Gilstrap or Brackins were still here.

CB playing like he did much of last year? I'm glad he's gone.
CB as the player I think would of bought into the system? I wish would of come back and improved his draft status.

By most accounts, Godfrey filled the last available scholly for this season. I would much rather have him for 4 years over someone who chose to leave.

I too am happy with the team they way it is they play alot more together then last year. But honestly if CB had stayed for his final year of eligiblity we would be talking about Top 25 ranking and almost a for sure birth to NCAA at this point. I like McD as a person, but he was a huge mistake as a hire. Set us way back.....

    Re: At 14-4

I honestly think JVB is a better college basketball player than Brackins. JVB is so much more efficient shooting the ball, which gives him the edge over Brackins on the offensive end. Brackins is a better defensive rebounder though so I only give JVB a slight edge overall.

If he was still around, Brackins would likely replace Ejim in this year's lineup. I took a look at Ejim's performance in the 4 losses to see if Brackins could have made a difference in any of those games.

Melvin Ejim Stats, News, Photos - Iowa State Cyclones - ESPN

The only game that I think Brackins would have turned an L into a W is the California game. Ejim went 1-9 in that game but he did have 9 rebounds.

Keep in mind that Brackins had some horrible games last year (shooting 3-17 and 4-16 in close home losses to Okie State and A&M for example) so there's no guarantee that we would have won any of those 4 games with Brackins. It's also possible that we would have lost THIS YEAR's games against Creighton and Iowa with Brackins in the lineup instead of Ejim. Melvin had huge games against Creighton (22 points on 9-13 shooting) and Iowa (15 pts on 6-9 shooting and 7 rebounds).

So it is really tough to say that our record would be any different with Brackins on this year's team.

I credit last year's CB to GMac trying to help Craig's draft status, and not really knowing how to balance the team's offense.

Things that I think would have helped Craig this year (that he wouldn't have known about when he made the announcement):

    1) CFH helping him on his 3-point shot. That would have been another real weapon.

    2) CFH mentoring him on what life as an NBA prospect and player is really like. Craig would have had a guy who has been through that process and helped others, as opposed to a guy that had never been around it before.

    3) A team style that loves to run, like actually pushing the ball, but with guys that know how to get open in the half-court. Craig would have piled up assists by the ton this year.

This year probably would have helped him a whole lot. His play in tryouts and such obviously did that as well, since he climbed up the draft board pretty well.

    Re: At 14-4

One thing that I think is the most certain: If Craig had come back, and we had this record or a better one, there would be some debate about whether Fred was only winning because Greg left him the right players.

As it is, we don't have any doubt, and we make a much cleaner break with the past.

The transfers came in after CG and EM, so it may of been more of a blow to next year's team.
