    Hilton Magic

Okay i know this is about the 100th thread about hilton magic. But i just wanted to say some things about it from my experience. Im only 15 and i've ben to tons of games at hilton over the years. There is only 1 game i remember that was probably louder then the last 2 games at hilton (Kansas,Baylor). The game where we upset Texas in I think 2004 is the only game that ive ben to that i think was louder. Fred is really doing great things at ISU and im glad I get to see it!

I'm glad my generation finally gets to witness the Magic at an age we will actually remember it for the rest of our lives. I'm sick of you old folks with your "back in my day" stories acting like it's my fault my parents didn't pop me out sooner.

It's not your fault but facts are facts. If you are under 20 you probably have never experienced Hilton Magic the way us old folks have.

    Re: Hilton Magic

The last two games have been pretty good, crowd-involvement wise, but when the court floor is shaking, I'll know the Magic is truly back.

Just wait. If what I think is happening for ISU b-ball under Hoiberg, is actually happening, it's going to get better. It will get to the point that no matter who we're playing, you know we're going to win at home. The team and the crowd working together, feeding off each other, wearing the opponent down. Ames will become a place where KU and Texas don't want to go because they know they're in for one of the toughest games all year.

If you're 15 and live around Ames, some of the funnest days/nights of your life are in front of you in the near future.

When you knew you were already ahead at the opening tip-off because you could see the look of dread on conference opponents faces at the pre-tip handshake--they would rather be getting a Brazilian wax than be playing in Hilton. Good times.

    Re: Hilton Magic

You will know Hilton magic is back when two things happen, it is louder when our team is struggling than when they are doing well, and the look of fear in the opposing players eyes when they are making mistakes because it is too loud to think.

    Re: Hilton Magic

The Magic isn't just about noise, although that is a part of it.

It's "Just Ice" Thigpen going off in the second half against Okie State when they were 3rd in the country, and we were behind by 18, or beating Oklahoma and Kansas back to back when they were ranked in the top 5, or coming back in the last minute to beat Kansas with Freddie and Meyer.

The Magic was when we beat teams we weren't supposed to beat. The Magic willed shots to go in for us and for us to make stands on defense. It can't be defined, it can only be experienced.

I've been going to games for 30 years, and I can honestly say I felt a little of it Saturday.

Hopefully we will soon be at the point where we don't need The Magic, we will just pound teams on talent and coaching.

    Re: Hilton Magic

There were certainly moments on saturday. The problem is the crowd would be going crazy, Baylor would call a time out, and then the crowd never came back. Hilton Magic means being louder after the time out...almost as a penalty for calling it.

The last line needs to be repeated.

I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everyone.

Umm, are we talking about women's games? I would hope that opposing men's teams wouldn't have any idea what that would be like.

Whatever happened to the blimp thing they used to have at games that said Hilton Magic on it? I think we need that back.

    Re: Hilton Magic

We used to walk to Hilton through 8 foot drifts of snow, uphill- both ways, to experience the Magic.
