Iowa State Wrestles Exciting Dual Against Minnesota

AMES, Iowa - Jon Reader and Andrew Sorenson once again combined to bring the crowd at Hilton Coliseum to its feet despite a 26-13 loss to fifth-ranked Minnesota Sunday.

"We won the matches I thought we should win and we lost the matches that I thought we were the underdog in," Iowa State head coach Kevin Jackson. "We had a 6-4 split today. We have spent hours and hours in the wrestling room working with the guys on individual technique. We didn't have (ISU 141-pounder) Chris Drouin, who has failed a concussion test. We hope to get him back in the lineup next week."

Re: Iowa State Wrestles Exciting Dual Against Minnesota

We're really, really feeling the loss of Cael's last recruiting class right now with these holes in our lineup. I still really like what Jackson is doing with the guys in the room though. Other than Weatherman, everyone is wrestling at or above expectations, and always seems ready to go for the big matches.

Having to forfeit a match at a home dual stings though, that shouldn't be happening at Iowa State. It's one thing at National Duals where guys get banged up and you didn't bring the full team, but it's embarrassing to do it at home.

What's "exciting" about getting your *** kicked in your own arena?

I hope you realize that wrestling is a lot harder sport that any of the other sports when it comes to recruiting or losing players to where the old coach went to. People need to relax and have faith in Jackson.

So losing the Kansas game the other night in bball wasn't exciting?
Also, did you go to the wrestling meet and basketball game to see the excitement level?
And thirdly, why are you even on this website if you believe the publisher is spinning the event?

Did Kansas double the score on ISU the other night? No comparison.

I edited my post. I figured CW got that headline from ISU. Thought they were spinning an ***-kicking as something other than an ***-kicking.

Minnesota is a top five team. We won 4 of 10 matches even though we were only favored in 2. Weatherman finally got a win, and Sorenson scored a big upset. Reader continued to roll through the season, adding another major decision against a top ten wrestler to his resume.

We were outclassed at a few weights, due to losing Cael's last recruiting class and Long's tendency to drink and get into fights. Plus graduating one of the best senior classes that we've ever had at Iowa State. Jackson can't change that. But he is excelling with the kids he does have.

Even changing nothing else, with Druin healthy we'd be looking at a score closer to 17-20. Having to forfeit (or pull a redshirt) made the score much more lopsided than the meet actually was.

Answer the other questions then big boy. And no Kansas didn't double the score but the same comparison could be made: good effort, came up short, young team, had a chance to win, learn and move on etc....
I assume you are a wrestling season ticket holder? And you will probably just say yes, even though you aren't.

You obvisouly were not there or know anything about wrestling, unless you have an intelligent question please refrain from commenting on something you know nothing about.

When did Iowa State have a chance to win today's dual? At exactly what point did you say, hey, we might have this thing???

Not a wrestling season ticket holder. Never claimed to be. Doesn't mean I don't go to any meets or that I'm not a fan. What percentage of people who attend an ISU event are season ticket holders? Should everyone else stay away? Are single game ticket buyers worthless?

When did any one say that we did?! Yes I wish we could win every week, and when Reader goes out and dominates a guy to get a major decision in the first match of the night, it start the meet out in our favor. Seriously though, do yourself and everyone else a favor and quit replying with stupid comments cause you are only making yourself sound more stupid. You have no clue what goes on at a wrestling meet and have no clue what went on today.

The big question mark is/will be KJ's recruiting. If you blame Cael for the last recruiting class, you also have to thank him for signing Reader, who was all-everything in high school in Michigan. No way would he have come here without the Sanderson name. You have to give Cael credit for our other most aggressive wrestler, Sorenson. Outside of those two, who on our team goes for take downs?

Re: Iowa State Wrestles Exciting Dual Against Minnesota

Sorenson's win was pretty exciting. Down 5-1 against a top 8 opponent and coming back to win it was a last second takedown.

Reader made a fool of another top 8 guy, just like he has been doing all season.

At Heavy, Simonson held his own against another top 8 guy.

ISU wrestling isn't where we would like it to be right now, but it isn't falling apart by any means. We have one top ranked guy and several others who have a very good chance of being AA's this year. We aren't a very good dual team, but we can't change that overnight.

If we avoid injuries, I trust that Jackson and his team will be top 10 in March.
