    1/16 -1/18 weather thread

I was not very concerned till recently, but earl's new model shows alot more snow than is being predicted anywhere else as of now.
Earl's GIS Radar Site Overlays Page

As someone who plows snow I would like to know if the 3-4 or 8-10 predictions are right.

What are the local weather guru's thinking?

Keep in mind you have two different storms combined on that map.

The first one swings through tonight into tomorrow. The second on Wednesday night.

Tonight will mainly affect central and northern Iowa into SE Minnesota and areas east. 3-6" with that.

It's early, but with Wednesday night I could see amounts comparable to a bit higher than that. But bear in mind that's still early.

The 10 days I have seen don't show anything for next week besides Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. Makes me feel alot better if part of that is a early prediction of another system.

I saw this earlier and was curious too.... though earl's models are 84\120 hr models, depending on which one you use, so i wonder if he's seeing more snow later in the week (which would make it match with local forecasting lower amounts for tomorrow)

Try this instead. Still on the Earl Barker site but you can select which hour to view...

Just read the forecast discussion, the gfs is predicting 3-6 Wednesday to Thursday, while other models have that system not hitting us.

Doesn't appear to be near as strong (cold) as it was yesterday. Still pretty nippy though!

    Great site !

I know snowlovers love that line for the 18z GFS model run but that model run is 'famous' for its creating monster storms that will dissappear when the 0z GFS runs and the 6Z and the 12Z....

I think the fact that he doesn't get to experience many (any?) games at Hilton or Jack Trice make up for the cold weather we experience in the winter. Overall, we win :)
