    8-11-07 scrimmage

Football Scrimmage Report No. 2, 8-11-07 - CYCLONES.com—The Official Web Site of Iowa State University Athletics

Nice to hear we have a coaching staff that knows what a pass to the RB is.

Not sure but I think Blythe had more receptions in that write-up than he had last year.

Maybe he has been promoted to coach.

That must be one of the rule changes the NCAA made coming into this season. I don't think that was allowed in previous years that's why ISU never did it.

It isn't that ISU never threw screens and passes to backs; they just never did it right. This is one of the things that really turned me against Mac and his "coaching harder" speach. Kids in 3rd grade can run the screen better than ISU did. There is no excuse for that, and it was clearly something that needed to be coached better not harder.

    Re: 8-11-07 scrimmage

If you want screen plays, you'd need linemen that could block AND run.

At the same time?!? Why dont you ask for their first born while you're at it! Next thing you know you'll expect em to walk and chew gum! Some Cyclones fans are as demanding as Hawkeye fans...GEEEESSHHHH!

ps, that was sarcasm. And that is really sad for us for the last decade or so.

another good point, I don't really consider this a rip on our previous coaching staffs, I mean they found different other things to work (maybe we didn't have a lot of success last year, but overall things have gotten much better in football.)

I never really noticed it before but we NEVER pass to the RB/FB. I heard someone say you need blocking, well no exactly...I mean all of last year when Meyer was only getting 1.4 seconds to throw the ball, we could have thrown in a few RB screens and let the defensive rush go right past rather than drop back into an obvious throwing set and make Meyer run when he is a MUCH better pocket passer.

    Re: 8-11-07 scrimmage

We had crap personnel for the screen. Stevie was too slow and the line was immobile. I remember a few screens last year, all resulting in Hicks juking behind his linemen for a few seconds and then being arm tackled for a loss.

It'd be nice if they got the first name of our offensive coordinator right in the write up.

Anyone notice that Meyer passed a lot to Catlett? Seem like we are throwing to the fullback as well.
