    Defense?

Unfortunately for me, I'm able to see our Cyclones only via highlight videos. The one posted at cyclones.com does not include even one defensive highlight from the Baylor game. Were there any?

Could someone please characterize ISU's defensive intensity and ability? Is Fred serious about defense, that is, is his team more focused on defensive play than perhaps were JO's teams?

    Thanks.

    Re: Defense?

I think we played D as well as we can.
Bubu sparked us with a couple steals.
When Baylor made the extra pass they got monster jams
but while they were flexing we went down and hit a 3.

    Re: Defense?

I liked it when Godfrey missed his layup, but came right back and got the steal going down the court. I think we nailed a 3 after that, if not we got a easy 2.

    Re: Defense?

I just mentioned this on another thread... I think the coaching staff recognizes we need JVB on the floor more for offense, they have coached him to stay out of foul trouble and be more passive on the defensive end. Plus with a real real short bench I don't think your defensive intensity can be too high. You have to pick your spots.

    Re: Defense?

Our defense is really good as far as keeping a man on a man. Other teams don't get a ton of wide open shots. Our interior defense is pretty weak, but I don't think we have the bodies to be able to afford aggressiveness there.

Overall, I'm impressed with Fred's team, on both ends of the floor.

According to some posters on here, it's not that he's trying to avoid fouls, he's just lazy. They said they really know basketball, so I can't argue with that.

    Re: Defense?

Not sure if anyone else saw at the end of the game baylor just called a set timeout to draw up a play. What did the cyclones do? They came out of the timeout in a zone thus rendering the play that was drawn up for man-to-man useless. I'm not sure who gets credit for that one but Fred Hoiberg and staff ran circles around Drew and Baylor last night

    Re: Defense?

Defense has been significantly better than offense. Opponents are shooting a terrible percentage, and also aren't getting to the FT line. If ISU could keep their opponents off the boards a little better, we'd be talking about a truly elite defense.

    Re: Defense?

Also threw the box and one on Dunn for a few possessions. Frustrated him pretty good I think. Do I dare say a Floyd-esque defense?
