ISU: Staying out of the cellar

If my math is correct, this will be the XII standings after tonight, if ISU can beat BU (and assuming Texas beats OU at home)

    ATM 3-0
    CU 3-0
    KU 2-0
    UT 2-0
    BU 2-1
    ISU 1-2
    KSU 1-2
    Mizzou 1-2
    Neb 1-2
    OSU 1-2
    OU 0-3
    TT 0-3

A little misleading — I kept alpha order, which puts I-State atop the 1-2 teams.

Anyway, one of my minimum hopes this season is for ISU to stay in the thick of the race in the middle of the pack. I won't even entertain the wish of competing for the upper division, but it would be reassuring with this team if it wasn’t lumped in with the cellar-dwellers all season long.

To that end, a win tonight is essential — a loss followed by 2 road games and 0-5 is a definite possibility.

Meanwhile, Tech & OU play each other, which could mean ISU might have to beat one of those teams just to stay out of last place.

    Shudder.

Even with a loss today, I don't think there is any way we finish in last place. Tech and OU are beyond awful.

Iowa State will not finish last as long as we keep the seven players we have playing healthy. We just need to weather this tough five game start in conference. Need a win today v Baylor.
