The Cubs Convention resumed Saturday morning at the Hilton Chicago with news that the team plans to unveil a statue Aug. 10 honoring Ron Santo, who died in December. That was followed by the sometimes combative but always entertaining question-and-answer seminars. The Ricketts family seminar began with the announcement of Ron Santo Day and the statue. The statue will be unveiled before the 7:05 p.m. game Aug. 10 vs. the Nationals. A No. 10 uniform patch will be worn by team personnel beginning in spring training.
Why didn't this happen before his death, ala Johnny Orr?

What I don't get is how the HOF has denied him all these years when it's amazing that he did what he did as a player while playing with diabetes. If you know the story you'd know Ron played for some time without anyone on the team knowing he had diabetes because he was afraid if they knew he would never have gotten the chance to play in the big leagues. I think he played around 10 years before he ever revealed that he had diabetes which is amazing he was able to keep it a secret for that long.
