    Twins re-sign Thome

    No link yet....just got some tweets from writers.

    1 year deal....3 million with incentives.

    I was kind of hoping they might try and get Vlad.......have another right-handed bat......but Thome is okay too.

    vlad would have been better, but he wants to play every day and would cost a whole lot more.

    Vlad would have been a bigger risk and probably a more costly option. Thome has proven that he can be effective getting 250 at bats and hitting for power at Target Field. Vlad hit only .217 with no extra base hits in 23 at bats at Target Field. I think that he started to slip his last year with the Angels and that much of his improvement last year can be attributed to the hitter friendly park in Texas.

    Awesome!! I was in Dallas this morning and they had a front sports page article about how Thome would be a good fit for the Rangers and how the Rangers would be a good fit for him. I'm pretty sure that Thome could have gotten more money a lot of places.

    It will be fun to see him hit #600 for Minnesota. He sure was a big reason why the Twins won their division last year.

    Thome is a great clubhouse guy as well as a great power hitter. I would take him over Vlad any day at this stage in their careers.

    But if Morneau is healthy then no way Thome gets half the ABs he had last year correct?

    Morneau was 1B and Thome was DH so it shouldnt affect the AB's

    Thome wasn't the DH at the beginning of the season was he? I thought he ended up getting a prominent role due to Morneau's injury. I must be "mis-remembering" (thanks Roger)!

    Right....Thome became the every day DH once Morneau went out since Cuddy went to first and Kubel played the OF.

    Thome is still a value at $3 million and at a part time role.

    Have we even heard that Morneau is coming back?

    Reports are that Morneau is "ramping up" his workouts and the Twins are optimistic he will be ready for the start of Spring Training.

    My wife is a big Thome fan - I bought her a T-shirt last summer that said, "When Teddy Roosevelt said speak softly but carry a big stick, he was talking about Jim Thome."
