    Ipod help

So lately whenever I plug any ipod into my computer, nothing shows up in my itunes. My computer knows that something's plugged in, because it will charge my ipod, it just won't let me open it up and manage what songs are on it. I know it isn't my ipod either, as my girlfriend's ipod runs into the same problem.

I uninstalled and reinstalled itunes (what was recommended on Google), but that didn't fix anything. Anyone know what's wrong/how to fix it? Thanks.

    Re: Ipod help

I've had a USB cable for my iPod go bad. Sounds like that is most likely the problem.

    Re: Ipod help

Sounds like you have a driver issue. I've had that problem with my cell phone where it doesn't recognize what type of device you just plugged in and sets it as a generic mass storage or something.

When you plug it in, first go to 'Start-Devices and Printers'. If it shows up there, try updating the driver. If it doesn't show up there then it is not recognizing that there is anything plugged in. I would try switching USB ports and see if that fixes anything.

If it's a bad USB cord, than it wouldn't charge, would it?

It doesn't show up under removable devices when I got to "computer" from the Start menu.

    Re: Ipod help

You may want to restore your ipod. I think your ipod software is corrupted.

Might try looking at the following thread. Seems to be just what you are talking about with several proposed solutions.

How do you restore your ipod when your computer won't read it?

    Re: Ipod help

This happened to me when the USB hub I was using went bad. It would still charge, it just wouldn't show up correctly on my PC. Do you have another cable?

I am trying to figure what that buttons were...

    Re: Ipod help

I don't remember the services right now, but I've had issues after an itunes update where one of the ipod services failed to start.

After a reboot (and before plugging the ipod back in), go to control panel -> administrator tools -> services and make sure that the ipod services are running. If they aren't, start them up.

Then plug in the ipod and it should be recognized.
