    In home fantasy

Does anyone do the actualy "live" drafts by holding them within your own home? I knew a person who did and it sounded like fun, but no one I know either has a computer or does fantasy football. I always thought it would be neat to do a in home draft and them manage it on the computer, it could make for a fun day of drafting.

We always rent out a room at a bar or restraunt to have our draft... Last year we went to Autographs in Ankeny, this year probably Felix and Oscars since they have wireless internet... It always makes for a lot more fun then an on line draft.

We clean out one of the guys garages here on the street and do it there. It usually takes 4-5 hrs of drinkin beer, eating crappy food. Good times!

See thats what I'm talking about. Do you do it via a computer or do you have a draft board?

OK Chris, I got really nervous by that thread title

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.

We do a really big board. And make each one go up there one by one and write down their choices. Have 5-6 different colored pens, one for qb, one for running back, etc.

Makes for a really fun evening. But it does take a long time. Also nice to have wireless net connections so people can surf between their picks.

We're all driving up to Mankato for hours. Should be lots of food, beer and trash talk! 10X better than an online draft.

    Re: In home fantasy

We did something similar at Old Chicago (Bettendorf) once. We didn't have the big board, but we did have access to the 110+ beers they had there! I think it'd be cool to do "big board," but none of my friends have the time for something like that. We're usually responsible for our own research and having an idea of who we'd like before we come in, and our commissioner keeps track of who all's been selected (and he's really good at it). Otherwise, we just do the online draft (which we're doing later this year).

We still do an online team once we do the big board draft. We are all just responsible for inputing our own rosters. It really takes the load off the commish. Otherwise that guy would need to be paid for his time.

I was that guy that did all the stats himself for fantasy league the first few years we did it. The draft was 10x better than it is now doing it online, but it sucked having to do the stats. We actually did baseball, basketball, and football back in high school, but for basketball/baseball we obviously didn't go head to head or it would have been impossible. I would just figure the stats rotisserie style every few weeks or so for basketball and baseball, while football I'd do the head to head every week, but that one didn't really matter since everybody did their own stats anyway. The first year we did a Big 10 fantasy football (this was SE Iowa where they haven't heard about ISU yet)...it was really fun...I always thought it'd be fun to do a Big 12/Big 10 league and keep our own stats.

Im just glad I have Homan as my bodyguard, Eustachy joked. If I ever make it real big and get to drive a limo everyday, hell be driving it. I thought he came off the bench like somebody was stealing his cow or something.

    Re: In home fantasy

I have 2 tomorrow, one is over the internet (3 or 4 guys at a couple locations with wireless and everyone else from they're homes).

The other is going to be live at a bar in Marion - we have a internet connection hooked up to a projector screen and have the commissioner logged in to force everybody's picks in. That one is my bigger money one on Fanball.com

I have heard of this too, bar leagues that is. I was curious how that went because that would almost be more of a commitment than what I am up for. I mean its fun heading to a bar to see Monday night and all, but man I just cant keep up with that all the time.

Anyway, sounds like people enjoy it more "live" instead of online live. Hats off to you commisioners out there who kept track of all the stats by hand.

yep... a live get together draft beats an online draft any day... and just have somebody enter the rosters to the computer later...
