    Bill Self comments on ISU...

Even though the highlights of the KU vs ISU game were completely one sided, almost as if ISU had lost by 20 rather then it being a close well played game the whole way with KU just simply having the horses to finish the race....

But in the ESPN article on the game, its much more respectful of ISU and at the end Bill Self makes a very respectful comment about FH.

It wasn't enough against the vaunted Jayhawks, who won their seventh straight in Ames. But Self, who was among the coaches who picked Iowa State last in the league's preseason poll, said they now look like a middle-of-the-pack Big 12 team.
"Fred has just done a great job of giving these guys confidence," Self said. "They're going to beat a lot of people up here."

You can move me from a skeptic to a bonafide Freddie fan.....

There can be no clearer respect then hearing Hawkeye fans tell me that he's got this team playin great ball with a cast of ok players but no stars....

This is what we as fans expect.....we may not beat the elite teams night in and night out, but, they're not getting run up either.....

We now have four losses by a total of 15 pts...that means were playing teams tough and thats considering that 3 true freshman and 1 redshirt freshman are getting significant minutes, this team is clearly on the rise!!!!!

I can say this, that if this team had gotten Royce White eligible or if Ham-Bone don't transfer, there is a chance that we may be undefeated right now....we need a horse or two in the paint - VB is completely overmatched athletically and physically, but the guy battles every night and for that, he's got my respect.

ISU BB things are looking brighter and brighter....upset of Baylor this weekend would be huge for the teams confidence....only problem, PJ Jones and they are athletic!!!!

Johnny Orr says Bill's a good guy so my opinion of him has improved.

We know we have a great coach and it's good to see someone like Bill giving him some credit.

Re: Bill Self comments on ISU...

Self is so much better as a coach and human being than Roy ever was.

Even the two years when ISU was clearly just a better team than Kansas (B12 title teams) and beat them five times in a row, Roy could never bring himself to give ISU any credit.

KU basketball has slipped in the "teams I can't stand in sports" from #1 to barely on the list. The fact that a rival team has become more likable while winning more than they ever did under Roy speaks volumes about the difference between the two.

    Roy Williams is the devil.

Bill Self is a quality coach. Not saying he doesn't get away with alot of crap just being KU, but he is really an OK guy.

I strongly disagree that JVB works every game. At least on the defensive end.

It's kind of funny listening to discussions and newscasts about Roy Williams here on Tobacco Road in North Carolina (I'm in grad school at NCSU by the way). Nobody really likes him - and State fans HATE him, but the Tarhole fans tolerate Roy as long as he wins games. People rip on Harrison Barnes all the time too, which I find humorous.

I still hate them. He just said that so his fans won't kill him because they only won by 5.

There's a difference between not working hard, and trying to stay out of foul trouble because we're very thin at your position.

Re: Bill Self comments on ISU...

I love having Fred as our coach and think that the future of ISU basketball is brighter than it has been for a long time. However, you need to take comments made by any coach about another coach with a grain of salt. Just last year, Bill Self was also singing McDermott's praises. The reason, of course, was that he wanted McDermott to remain as ISU's coach for as long as possible so that Self would be guaranteed two wins over ISU year in and year out. I don't think that is the case with his comments about Fred though.

exactly....that is it 100% we cannot afford to lose JVB for offensive reasons....i think defensively Railey, Godfrey and Mcknight can go in and block the middle enough to give up 50 points to the KU big men....but offensively, they just do not have the skill set yet to provide what JVB provides....

Working Hard may not be using the right wording....How bout "Playing within his skill set"

Cm'n, man, if he worked too hard on defense, he would foul out.

There's a difference between playing good defense and giving good effort from sitting underneath the hoop and letting his man dominate.

If Dendy was here, it would have been lot of elbows flying and going around. Hope he enjoys his new home. He missed out on a fun team.
