    Phillip Bates

Any word on how he's looked so far in fall practices?

    Re: Phillip Bates

I havent heard anything yet. My guess is that he will be redshirted this year. Question is are we going to have the same ordeal with him and Arnod as we did with Flynn and Meyer next year? If so will we possibly move one to another position so talent isnt wasted?

With this staff, if a move is best for the team, I have no doubt they will make it. Unlike Mac and Hicks. Hicks should have been a linebacker.

Hicks should have been an offensive Lineman!

I just had an image in my head of Stevie tip toeing to make a tackle, it was pretty funny...

I would think one of them would like to be a safety or corner: Just ask the 3 top 10 picks Chizik has coached at Auburn and Texas.

    Re: Phillip Bates

I think he will be like Jermaine Billips (sp) a few years ago (I can still hear Pete calling the punt return for a touchdown in the Insight.com Bowl). Bates will get every opportunity to play QB. If he can make the grade years 1 and 2 then I thik you will see Chizik and company give him other options to help the team.

He looks like he could be a hard hitting safety! Bob Sanders without getting burned once a game.

    Re: Phillip Bates

Competition and a viable backup are important to have. I don't foresee either of them moving until there is another viable option at QB.

If we would have recruited Hicks at LB, he likely would have played it at NE. He came here for running back. Like him or not, the coaches felt he was the best we had.

Gripe MAC for lots of things, but he DID move players around positions. Not loving on him, just stating what I recall as fact.

All said I hope he is the 2nd coming of Seneca Wallace!

"The Run" would be sweet to see all over again, and again and again!

If I remember correctly, the main reason that Stevie ended up here is the promise to play runningback. kNU, and the other schools were telling him that he needed to play defense.

It was a bad situation. I know that when Mac signed Scales, he was pretty sure that he would start for him. And with that he could convince Stevie to play on the other side. But Scales has never even thought about being healthy, so he had to stick with Hicks.

The problem was that the line wasn't good enough to sustain blocks to allow him to be the type of back that he was. Quick feet, but not fast, and I never got the sense that Stevie liked contact, so his size was wasted as well.

If Mac would have done his job, Hicks would have been recruited over.
