    Onkyo HT-S894 Home Theatre

Does anyone have this system or a similiar Onkyo system? I have never been pleased with the quality of sound. I would really appreciate comparing settings with someone else. I might be suffering from "champagne taste on a beer budget" but this was a highly reviewed system which caused me to get it in the first place.

I was testing a cheaper Bose system at Target which sounded much crisper/fuller (sp?) and I have heard from enough people that Bose is way overpriced for what you actually get compared to Onkyo, etc.

    Thanks!

More importantly than the receiver is, what speakers are you using?

EDIT: Or is this one of those all in 1 systems?

    Speakers.

Go down to Audio Labs on Ingersol. One of the few places where you can actually listen to Bose speakers next to decent speakers. Bose doesn't want you to compare.

It is the dreaded HTIB Box set so I'm sure most of it is a speaker issue, but there are so many PCM, Direct, hz, etc. settings that the manual does not explain that well.

Also, we have Mediacom which I have read doesn't bring in 100% audio like Direct/Dish????

My guess would also be speakers - I don't have the same system you do, but I've been extremely happy with the Onkyo components I do have (receiver, Integra CD player, used to have Onkyo DVD as well). I upgraded the DVD to a PS3 to take advantage of my HDTV, but the receiver and CD player are going on 12 years of great, consistent performance.

Get it dialed in. I've had an Onkyo receiver for over 9 years, and its worked great. There has to be an audio forum that has this information for you.

    site:avsforum.com onkyo ht-s894 setup - Google Search

I've had good luck with AVS when setting up televisions, probably worth a look.

I'm gonna start checking Craigslist for speakers. What do you guys suggest? I'm
not to familiar anymore with the brands. I'm from the Panasonic Thruster era!!!

How much do you want to spend? I would mainly focus on the front 3 and you can add other later.
