    Any band nerds out there?

Just kidding. I used to be one and loved it.
Anyway, I know we have several alums or current members of the ISCVMB here and I wanted to know the name of the first song the band plays when the take the field. I have always called it the "Fanfare" and have had it in my head all day. Any idea where I could listen to it online.

It's called "Iowa State Fanfare" and I use to LOVE playing it... yes, I'm a HUGE dork. I use to play it as loud as I could on my trombone, to this day it is my favorite school song, along with "Bells of Iowa State".

By the way, the marching band is actually the ISUCF"V"MB... ;)

There was nothing quite like sprinting out onto the field "X" ing frantically, stopping suddenly and hitting that first note of Iowa State Fanfare. It was powerful.

What made it especially interesting for me was that I was usually either hung over or still drunk from the night before.

I didn't realize there were 2 versions of the Fight Song. I love the one with the trumpet descant above the rest of the band playing "loyal sons for-ever true, and we will fight the bat-tle through..........."

Personally, I like the drum intro to that song as the band geeks are running around like Chicaken Squawks with their heads cut off!!

My wife goes just for the band. I love the fact that she likes to go at all.

There actually aren't two versions...there is a NEW version that we currently play though, that is a slightly different arrangement than the one you likely played. The easiest way to tell the two apart is the old one has a four bar intro, while the new one is only two bars. The old version is still featured on most video games. You'll find the new version on our new CD for sure, it should be available soon.

Re: Any band nerds out there?

I remember one time last year after half time when the band came over in front of the student section and played Blink 182 - All the small things. That was pretty sweet, does anybody, in band, know if they are going to be doing that again anytime soon?

Re: Any band nerds out there?

I know the band "roves" or whatever it is they call it at the home games, but I do know they never made it by the student section in the lower level next to the 20 last year, that irked me a bit.

Anyone know of a link for the Cowbell song? I have a hankerin' to hear that again.
