Really no shock there. The only difference is that the B10 was expected to be good, but they're pretty much in the same boat as us.

Re: Big 12 3-5 In Bowl Games

I think everyone in the country felt the Big 12 was down this year so that isn't a surprise. On the flip side, the big televen was supposed to be up this year.

In the end, bowl matchups are tough to use as gauges for conference strength. The Big East usually has good bowl records but they get favorable matchups and tie ins

Too bad we were, yet again, not in position to take advantage of the conference being down.

I never buy into the "Conference Y stinks because they didn't have a good bowl season" smack. If anything, I look at how Top 25 teams do against one another and how unranked teams do against Top 25 teams. I typically don't put much stock into the outcome of two unranked teams. If any of that makes sense.

OH, ISU was in position, but as usual they let an opportunity run down their leg.

Yep, like Nebraska and Mizzou did against unranked teams.

It is too bad, especially when we ended up winning 1 of the B12 games that we traditionally chalk up as a loss (UT). As you probably remember, we've let far greater opportunities when the B12 North was down right embarrassing slip by in the past.

My fear now, is that with a 9 game B12 schedule + Iowa (not to mention OOC games like UCONN) it's going to be nearly impossible for us to gain momentum.

OU will always be there. UT will get back within 2 years. Okie State is coming on (will be interesting to see how they handle losing Holgrem). Mizzou is becoming a fixture (but have to replace another great QB). A&M appears to be gaining and always have an easy path to talented recruits.

Re: Big 12 3-5 In Bowl Games

I was going to wait until after the NC game to update my previous post in this thread but I guess I can do it now and again after the NC game.

    http://www.cyclonefanatic.com/forum/general-college-sports/110710-big-tens-big-day-4.html

Big 12 - bowl record 3-5 opponents record (regular season) 58-38 1 ranked team played, none defeated no games remaining

Big 10 - bowl record 3-5 opponents record 70-26; 5 ranked teams played, two defeated, no games remaining

SEC - bowl record 4-4 opponents record 71-27; 5 ranked teams played, two defeated, two games remaining 1 against a ranked opponent

Pac 10 - bowl record 2-1 opponents record 31-7; 3 ranked teams played, two defeated, one game remaining against ranked opponent

Big East - bowl record 3-2, opponents record 39-22 1 ranked team played, defeated zero ranked teams, one game remaining against unranked opponent

ACC - bowl record 4-4, opponents record 63-34 3 ranked teams played, two defeated, one game remaining against a ranked opponent.

As of right now whoever wins the NC game will probably lay claim to the best bowl season. The Pac 10 has really benefited from only having their best 4 teams play in a bowl game (outside of USC which wasn't that good anyway).

The SEC isn't as dominant as the media would lead you to believe.

The ACC is doing pretty well in the bowl season after a horrific OOC performance but yet again lost a BCS game.

The Big 10 got a lot of pub for that disasterous performance on Jan 1st but they haven't had the worst bowl season. That (dis)honor goes to the Big 12. Despite having by far the easiest bowl lineup they're tied for the worst bowl record.

The Big East are who we thought they were.

As a Big 12 guy, that stinks, but I was still pulling pretty hard for LSU last night so I could clinch my bowl pool. I didn't see a blowout coming though, I thought it would be a typical LSU monkey-f'ing-a-football, pull-it-out-of-their-rears type of win.

Re: Big 12 3-5 In Bowl Games

If the one pass had more zip behind it, Iowa State would have gone to and won a bowl game. We were better than so many bowl teams this year.

Re: Big 12 3-5 In Bowl Games

And yet another thread started by Ameshammer about how bad the Big 12 was this year. Okay, we get it. The Big 12 was not good in bowl games this year. It was a down year, we get it. At least it is abnormal for the Big 12 to stink it up. The Big 10 has done this almost every year, and it doesn't seem to keep their teams from being invited to bowls.

I'd say that "Momentum" you can gain but, Bowl Games are definitely out of the picture with a full 9 game schedule plus a yearly loss to EIU!!!!!

Just like the beloved Jimmy Don Criner years....bowling is out and waiting for the basketball season is in!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's the New Reality ... or is it just the old one, revisited?
