How much will ARob be missed next season?

I think at first the experience will be a factor with our running backs, I just hope by the second half of the season the backs can have some consistancy.

Woody and Johnson will be fine.

By the way, our running backs' names are Woody and Johnson next year.

Shontrelle will get the load of the carries this up coming year. And i can't wait to see every single one of them.

Arob will always be missed. Great player that played hard and set a great example on and off the field. If he wouldn't have had those injuries and sat out those games, he could have had a couple very special seasons.

Re: How much will ARob be missed next season?

I will place a bet on the under of 1 game in which Johnson has 20 carries.

Leadership is hard to quantify. That's where we will miss him. In terms of playing the game, I don't even think you will notice to be honest. I mean, ARob was Arob and he was great. I'm not saying he wasn't, but SJ, JW, and Hollis will fill in very well. Don't sleep on Hollis, he will play next year. Each of the backs is just a little different and brings a different style to the table. I feel very comfortable with them.

Arob was a great blocker and good at catching passes. running the ball we might not see a huge drop off, but we will miss the little things.

Re: How much will ARob be missed next season?

I think that we'll miss the leadership and knowledge of the offense more than anything. IMO Shontrelle can match/top anything ARob can do on the field if he gets his assignments down.

Re: How much will ARob be missed next season?

Shontrelle will be fun to watch but there is no way he will be getting 20+ carries per game. He is not a durable type of back.

If there are a possible 25-30 carries per game, I would see it shaking out like this:
    Woody 12
    Johnson 8-10
    Others 5+

It will be important to get Shontrelle touches in other ways, rather than him running up the middle. We just can't afford to have him getting hurt. I think we will see him catching swing passes out of the backfield, some screens, and maybe splitting him out wide sometimes just to get him additional touches in space.

Re: How much will ARob be missed next season?

I'm excited for these next couple of years with these guys! I think Johnson has alot of potential and will do big things here at ISU. Woody just reminds me of Kock and I see him being a big part in the running game as well. Change of pace, goal line, etc. I just hope they stay healthy!!!!!

    Thats hard to express!

So proud of the effort, my kids gave, to win tonight!

This. Pass blocking/blitz pickup will be the biggest drop off. Hopefully the new guys will be able to pick it up, but its a very underrated aspect of RB play, and in our offense it is very important. I think Woody/Shontrelle/Duck will pick up most of the slack on carrying the ball, but everything else will be lacking for a year or two until those guys fully mature. I hope I'm wrong.

Also, on a side note, I really do hope one of the backs emerges as the "go-to" back. For some reason, I really appreciate having a featured back who gets 70%+ of the carries. Obviously, SJ is the prime candidate for this role, and I hope he is up to the challenge and is durable and reliable enough. I think he is.

Or how bout how much we will miss AA, Williams, and Franklin?

Our offense has a risk of being very pitiful to watch next year.

Robinson is better than any of the guys mentioned in the quoted post, BUT he had some of the best back-ups I've seen in my time as a Cyclone fan. We will miss AA, Williams, and Franklin far more than A-Rob, but that's just because he has such high quality guys backing him up.
