    credit check

Has anybody used an online credit check? I want to check my credit scores b/c I think I have had some fraudulent credit cards opened in my name.

So, any advice would help in this matter. Thanks.

    Do NOT use freecreditreport.com. It's a scam.

    Re: credit check

Go to AnnualCreditReport.com to get all 3 for free. They will try to sell your actual score, but refuse and you will still get the report with all of the open accounts.

After you check, have them put a fraud alert on your account. When you request one, it will be put on all three. I have done this twice, when I suspected my personal information was comprimised.

My score went down 8 points last year when I closed a credit card I did not use.

Just remember the fraud alert is there, a lot of people put these on and then forget they are there, then they apply for credit and have forgotten it was on there and forgot the reason they put it there. A creditor cannot remove a fraud alert, so make sure to remember the information from the fraud alert.

Fraud alert is only good for 90 days.

Also keep in mind that the score part isn't free.

Correct the initial alert is good for 90 days, you can extend it and go up to seven years. Also if you do this, you will need to give them a telephone number to contact you if someone is trying to open credit in your name.

    Re: credit check

Be careful when you go into these sights. You can get a free credit report but only if you provide a credit card AND get the $14.95 per month service you just bought. YOu can cancel within 7 days otherwise they charge your credit card. I ended up in a battle with one of these sights and ended up going to the Better Business Bureau to get 4 months worth of charges credited back to my credit card.

Not if you use AnnualCreditReport.com. It's the other ones you have to worry about.

    Re: credit check

I just did it for annualcreditreport.com. The most they do is try to sell you the score, but. if you have green ok credit, you do not need the score. I saw no errors in mine and, if I did, I would send them a note to fix. Experian seemed the best.

For score, the only real scores for two of the agencies is from myfico.com.

I don't do signatures. Blondes, brunettes, and red heads are a different story.
